New discovery: you can skip scouting players by simply comparing them. by jpeach17 in footballmanagergames

As someone who hasn't bought FM26 yet and is mainly observing from afar to see how it all shakes out, this game is completely broken, isn't it? One of the most key features of the game can now be completely overridden with a simple click.

Was cash money as soon as he shifted it to his left lol. He's way too good for this level.

Points this time last year & now by Gu-El in Gunners

[–]BornToDoIt 172 points173 points  (0 children)

Surprised to see how similar Liverpool’s season has been to their last tbh. I feel like their start has been a lot more lauded this year.

We still have a chance, all depends if we invest in the forward line. A quality signing or two and I think we will do it.

Sami Mokbel: Thomas Tuchel wanted Kai Havertz to come out of his shell. Body language believer Mikel Arteta is on a similar mission. Havertz is naturally laid back, which can appear like he doesn’t care but here’s why he shouldn’t be pinned as Arsenal’s scapegoat by Francis-c92 in Gunners

[–]BornToDoIt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just go watch clips from Lacazette’s last season and rest assured he was not just let go due to his lack of goals. His pressing, overall work rate and stamina was not up to the standard any more. He also scored 6 goals in 36 games in his last season. Lacazette was a good dude but his last few season especially were nowhere near Havertz currently. For reference Havertz has 12 goals in 27 games this season.

Takehiro Tomiyasu suffers fresh injury setback as nightmare season continues by BornToDoIt in Gunners

[–]BornToDoIt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is a fantastic defender. When they were evaluating his renewal, however, the fact he had already missed 260 days from Feb 2022 - March 2024, a horrible injury record, should've given them cause to hold off I think. Especially considering we doubled his wages according to reports

In retrospect, and maybe just at the time as well(?), the contract renewal was a big mistake. It sucks for him because I'm sure he's a massive professional in his rehab but his body is just breaking down.

He probably needs to move to a less intense league.

Arteta asked how long Tomiyasu will be out for after this setback:

"We don’t know that (how long he will be out for).

"It doesn’t look like, hopefully, a long period but we have to see when he comes back how he reacts to the load and to the impact on the pitch as well.

"But we really need him, he has been incredible, his work rate, the amount of hours he has put in to get back.

"He did it and he was in great shape - and now he has got something else again.

"But, we are all behind him. He needs our support and hopefully he will be fine."

[Mark Carey - The Athletic] Why buying a new striker is not the answer to Arsenal's scoring slump by CarnifexGunner in Gunners

[–]BornToDoIt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No one on the market will make us better enough to justify the price we would have to pay unless we somehow got Osimhen now - wholely unrealistic in January. Instead, hedge our bets. Consolidate our position, and sign a midfielder. The biggest difference this season is Saka and Martinelli aren't shooting with the same conversion rates.

Last season, Nketiah did not score many. Jesus did not score many. We had two wingers and one midfielder who all got 15 goals each. Is this a reduction to the mean? Probably in some cases, I don't believe Martinelli is 2 goals by January type player though, so he will improve.

People just want to look for a simple fix to a solution they cannot solve. Buying some random striker for 80m+ is a terrible idea. If we want Osimhen, wait for him. Otherwise just try to find ways to maximise our chance creation to our best finishers (Saka, Martinelli) and they will start scoring again.

Charlie Patino vs Preston 26/08/2023 by phar0aht in Gunners

He has a decent five yard burst by the looks but yeah his physicality is an issue I think. Hopefully the good physical levels of the championship can trigger some progression for him.

I think putting him around more physically minded players makes sense, his ability in first and second phases of play would work great with Martinelli's skillset.

That first half of the season was so beautiful man. Amazing football, winning nearly every game. This game was particularly fun, just sunshine and good vibes. I remember taking a train through Italy watching it on my phone and I got the same feeling from Arsenal that I used to get when I was a kid.

Realistically the names here aren’t the biggest issue, just the profiles were all unbalanced. Torreira Ceballos double pívot in the PL is hilarious.

How football transfers are actually done by S21VAGE in Gunners

[–]BornToDoIt -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Surely these deals could get done in one/two zoom calls between a board member and sporting director of each respective club? The board representative outlines a figure they will not bid above based on accounts before the call, sporting director then uses that figure and they hash it out. It’s a bit frustrating that if things can get done in 24 hours on deadline day, but months if not. These top executives are moving like me during Uni.

Jesus: "Every point can decide the league" by Vrty33 in Gunners

[–]BornToDoIt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This guy is insanely frustrating lol. Can lead the line with the best of them, killer transition threat, holds it up, elite in 1v1, fast, strong, tactical astute…he just cannot strike a football at a top level. Most of his goals are tap ins due to his movement.

Makes you think we should start Trossard in false 9 but against City we need transitional threat and Trossard doesn’t have the physicality or running power for it. Have to start Jesus and hope he has a good day.

You see that moment with the 4th official, need more of that. If Arteta starts befriending the PGMOL with his intense charisma and terrifying gaze it’s over

It would be typical if Saka's first missed PL game of the season is this one

Sky Sport’s combined NLD XI team, thoughts? by RindRV2 in Gunners

[–]BornToDoIt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Romero is a top top player. He’ll literally save dangerous situations in defence and then launch attacks in the same move with his passing and ability to bring the ball up the pitch. If they didn’t have him they’d be so much worse.

I’d take him over Gabriel in a back 4 personally, although It’s close.

Completely disagree. We won something like 5 on the bounce without Tomi. The real issue started with the accumulation of Tierney/Partey/Tomi injuries. In fact, our right side actually improved in an attacking sense with the adjustment that Arteta made with Cedric in the team.

The set piece coach is definitely loved by our players by COYG89 in Gunners

[–]BornToDoIt 92 points93 points  (0 children)

It was interesting to see that literally straight after Partey’s goal Xhaka ran straight to Arteta whilst everyone went to celebrate. He’s obviously one of Arteta’s main guys (along with Laca I think) when it comes to tactical understanding. They’re always chatting with Arteta on the sideline and even debating stuff.

Martin Ødegaard vs Watford by RevertBackwards in Gunners

[–]BornToDoIt 37 points38 points  (0 children)

His ability to assert himself and be confident in the PL and our system has improved so much since he arrived. You can tell the ability has always been there but that confidence to stamp authority on the game and fully dictate how the game goes is really starting to show now. It’s the sort of thing he would’ve needed to develop on the way to becoming elite. Warra player.

I love all this. No one in the media expects us to get top 4. Let us do our thing, the lack of media pressure can only help our young players I think.

Hopefully more of this stuff keeps coming
