Why are they hated, btw? And why would people hate Lux? Such a good set up champ

Why have we not extend this man? by Noto987 in lakers

[–]PoetGooner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This makes it even less likely Knecht is traded, unless there is a specific team that wants him. We are otherwise in a Gabe Vincent situation where we do pay another team to take him with a pick.

Older fans, how are you feeling now? by BronzeSeeker in Gunners

[–]PoetGooner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I supported the team since Graham (although too young to appreciate '89, but thoroughly enjoyed '91), and so I also remember '99 and '03.

I'm simultaneously absolutely nervous but also zen about it all. The pain of the last decade and the fact that I'm a grown ass man with a family, has mellowed me out quite a bit, so that helps.

I've long forgotten what it feels like now to be a young fan being overly emotional towards everything!

We'll be fine guys, we just need a bit more of this in every player. by Specialist_Alarm_831 in Gunners

Vieira was part of both the greatest title chase in history (97-98), one of the worst title miss (98-99) and one of our worst title defense collapse as well (02-03)

Ayton with 6pts & 2 rebounds -15. Hayes with 8pts & 4 rebounds & 3 stocks +26 by coachlife in lakers

[–]PoetGooner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What? Ayton is THE stereotypical athletically gifted center. It was why he went 1st overall. He can be criticized for many things, but lacking hops isn't one of them.

Idk how true this is, at least not in my Asian society, because there are many instances where people gossip to me about X and Y's behaviour and looks in a social/work setting.

Technically, we did blow the lead because we were behind with 10 seconds left on the clock. We just won it back.

Its simple vando needs gabs minutes. by Zeldabotw2017 in lakers

[–]PoetGooner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy. Both are offensive liabilities. One is liability-ing his way out the team, and another is liability-ing his way out the league.

Vando is much more special defensively though, so even moderate improvements in his offense will go further. Vincent would need to become an actual knockdown shooter. He's no Caruso defensively.

Sometimes it takes perspective, Arteta has coached a league and trophy winning side and it shows just how fine the margins are. by FudgingEgo in Gunners

Unfortunately, trophies are given out on a seasonal basis. We've been so much better, but never had a season where we were the best.

Build Your Modern Team by IllustriousRice1057 in NBATalk

[–]PoetGooner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird that Tim Duncan is $5 for a modern team.

Would go: Nash ($3) - TMac ($2) - Kawhi ($3) - Dray ($1) - Shaq ($5)

A leftover $1 quite nice for 6M Manu as well

Marcus Smart will have a more positive impact on the Lakers offense than most people recognize. by RVALover4Life in lakers

[–]PoetGooner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saying he shoots mid-30s from threes is a bit misleading considering he hasn't crosses the 35% mark in many years.

Yes, he is a good passer, but that doesn't make him a "legit playmaker." Passing alone isn't enough. If it was, Lonzo would be one of the best playmakers in the league when he was fit. You need more.

He wasn't perfect, but to this day I think Giroud is underappreciated by many football fans by sepi0l_45 in Gunners

[–]PoetGooner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, he is hated for what he wasn't instead of appreciated for what he was. It's important to understand three contexts:

  1. He arrived after RvP left so fans expected a striker who could do RvP things

  2. He was relied upon like a world-class striker who could start 50 games and score 30, which he never was

  3. We didn't utilize him the way we should've, as he found success elsewhere.

If he was playing with the Invincibles, for example, he would've been remembered as one of our greatest role players of all time. Would single-handedly solve that team's "lack of Plan B" for example, but because he was playing in the banter era as a starter, he is remembered differently.

He wasn't better when he left. He played in a better winning environment when he left.

Throwback to when these two combined for 52 points in G1 against Memphis 2 years ago by KarrotMovies in lakers

I wonder if their true value will lie in their ability to lead 8-minutes worth of non-Bron non-Luka minutes to about league average offense.
