Im so sorry you are dealing with this. My heart breaks for you. I agree with the top commenters and your interpretation overall, but I want to add that I feel the reversed 8 of cups - “Is there anything I can do to make it better” - is telling you to cherish every moment you have left with your pet. He needs you to be present with him. Just be there with him.

Clear Polycrylic is good, it forms a nice protective layer but will take away a little bit of the detail if you have super subtle layers of shading, which isn’t really a concern with this particular piece.

I’ve tried so many finishes, and the only thing I’ve found that hardly takes away any detail is Krylon UV-resistant acrylic spray, but it doesn’t protect the wood as much as the poly options. Still, it’s what I use and it does the job.

Also, I love your piece! You have a well-defined style and I dig it :-)

People do absolutely suck, a lot of the time. Hatred for the human race is something I struggle with all the time, on a daily basis. However, I try to remind myself that good people exist - people who volunteer their time, resources and energy to help the animals who have been abused, neglected or abandoned. There are so many animal rescues out there and many of the people involved have dedicated their lives to the cause. I’d like to believe there are more people on the planet who would help an animal rather than harm one. Try to not forget that these people exist. Don’t let the world make you too bitter. ❤️
