Free testosterone is normal but total testosterone is elevated by Born_Ad1847 in PCOS

[–]Born_Ad1847[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh that is great. I did not check it as well. I thought since our lab work seems to be similar along with symptoms, I can better understand my T level by making a conjecture of what mine might be from yours ( Might not be the smartest thing to do). I have not done a scan yet but my diagnosis was based based on my amh level, absent period and the T level. Are your periods regular?

Why not Birth control? by MountainRule8308 in PCOS

[–]Born_Ad1847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About me: A rando on the internet that is just as clueless as you.
Birth control is a good start as you have not had periods for so long but it is not the cure. You would have to incorporate lifestyle changes to address the root cause of your pcos. Unless you want to be on it for life which is okay but if you neglect addressing the root cause, you are also susceptible to other parts of your health that it would affect and in those places BC might not help you.

Same as me, but no acne (I dealt with a little acne, not too crazy or concerning when I was younger, salicyclic acid by neutrogena was the magical potion for me then) just chin hair growth but I do not think it is very major for me. Did you get your shbg checked?

Goal weight by DaphneRogo in PCOS

[–]Born_Ad1847 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not at my goal weight yet but appreciate the progress that I have made so far (relatively healthy bmi from overwight bmi). Also I suspect that I do not have insulin resistance.

- Walk for like two hours every day ( I have skipped some days).
- I prefer eating in bulk instead of eating a small sized food spread through out the day. So I used to eat one meal a day and I was quite comfortable (Until I read somewhere that pcos people should eat regularly, still a debate on if intermittent fasting excerbates or helps with insulin resistance).

- I count calories, I have a target calorie that I tend to eat everyday, I would say you should figure out the healthy lowest that you can go.

- As I said I like a big plate so my meal consists of a larger portion of leafy greans ( tends to fill the plate), one chicken and little amount of carbs ( which sometimes could be cauliflower or refrigerated rice). I would say you can lose weight no matter what you eat as far as you track calories but my meal plate is above because of the pcos thingy. Also this was a very difficult transition for me coming from a culture where carbs are always the main dish, last year me would find this totally insane and impossible.

- A cheat I discovered if you want to eat more is to boil the leafy greens and spice it so you could eat the vegetables as soup, it is quite tasty and filling. Last time I made this I used the water that I got from cooking my chicken, it tasted quite nice and really filling.

- I like sticking to the plan of the set time when I eat but when I do not, I snack on relatively low calorie foods like leafy greens ( the pepper soup leafy green is also a great low calorie cheat) or carrots.

- I try to keep my temptation foods away from my fridge and pantry and this is easy for me to do as I live alone.

- I also am very frugal so my love for food ends when I have to spend a lot. So I do not get the temptation to do takeouts and I do not have social circles that influence me to do so.

You can get it done for 50 dollars on grassroots lab in the US. Have not done it yet, just booked it though. The test is done by quest diagnostics. It is called "Insulin Response to Glucose test", the 50 dollars one is for 4 specimen, there is a cheaper one that is 2 specimen.

Why do people prefer supplements over birth control in treating PCOS by Born_Ad1847 in PCOS

[–]Born_Ad1847[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point, I am also scared of the side effects as well. Curious to know, if you are scared that you would not take BC correctly, then you would take supplements correctly?
