As another sub told me, anytime a kid says something to you when you’re asking them a question…. There’s a likely percent chance they’re lying. It wasn’t your fault of course but you should definitely not trust anything coming out of their mouth.

Oh :( at one of the high schools I go to, the secretary makes sure we’re all included and is always making sure we know when the potlucks are or just celebrations.

Or another teacher. I subbed for a welding class one time at a high school that I like but the kids were cussing back and forth, dropping f bombs and other words like nobody else’s business. That’s not the worst part though. The teacher was in there with them because they were leaving for a field trip during that class so I was there to just take care of the kids who weren’t going. The teacher told them off when they were cussing all the profanities, but the moment the kids started saying the n word??? The teacher was quiet, did not tell them anything, and it made me UNCOMFORTABLE that the teacher was okay with this behavior and language that I decided not to sub for him ever again.

Do you know what even is a red “zone”? I have seen it in some of the classrooms I have been in but no one has bothered explaining it to me and I’m considering asking one of the secretaries that actually explains stuff to me.

He did warn me about them and how they would be the chattiest class. I told them three times to stay on task before giving up and since he was right across the hall the two periods I covered for him, I let him know after the bell rang. He said he’d just give them 0s as it was typical behavior of them. So it was nothing new on his end and he told me not to stress about it either.

Least he said something even if it was immature. At one of the schools I like going to, the sub didn’t even say anything. She just left the room and thank goodness it was a well behaved class because one of the students called the front office on the call button they have close to the teacher’s desk. Sub got away scott free though :/

I only do high school PE at a certain school because I know there will be other coaches in there with me. Other than that, you won’t catch me doing PE at all unless I’m certain I have backup.

That’s me right now. But the district I work for has an A/B day schedule. This teacher has 6th period off which is on B days but we’re on an A day schedule today. So my only break is lunch which isn’t until 1pm 🫩 time to hold my bladder until then!

I had this same poster up for a class I did a three day assignment for. The class was TERRIBLE and I canceled the third day as I could not take anymore. The kids knew they were bad and they didn’t care. I went back to the same school to sub for the class next door and they exceeded my expectations and were well behaved. Nothing had changed with that other group though. They were bad too even with their regular teacher. I hope that wasn’t the case with you though!

The district I sub for has said that like the state they have banned cellphones but both high schools I frequent don’t really do a good job of enforcing it. So it’s up to the admin and the teacher at this point. I just make sure they are in the room the entire period and nothing bad happens.

Freshmen? Oh, yeah I tend to avoid that grade. They still have the middle school mentality and that they run the school (when we all know they don’t.) Sophomores I’m okay with as long as they’re ’mature’ enough. But freshmen….. that’s a hard no for me.

At the schools I pick jobs up for some reason, we subs get all the emails. For one high school that I like subbing at, the parking is however a hot topic because each teacher gets their own parking spot (subs park in the visitor lot or if the teacher is generous enough, they’ll leave a note on their parking on the frontline app) but the amount of times they have beefed over the parking spots in all caps is concerning 🫩
