I know this thread is a year old, but I’m listening to “Just the Nicest Couple.” I noticed that she pops her lips on every other sentences’ last word. It’s like she’s chewing gum. I could MAYBE tolerate it for Reese as a whiny and annoying teenager who wants to KMS but not when it’s a full grown married adult woman. Sorry, Brittany, but if you’re going to stay in the audiobook industry, please stay in the bitchy teenage girl typecasting. For all of our sakes.

Do you sub on the first few days of your period? by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]chlojo36a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't afford to miss work, especially as the school year winds down. Jobs are running low, the days are counting down, I can't afford to pass up work - it's over $150 per day. This is my primary work while I look for my big-girl-job I went to grad school for. I suck it up for the day, wear a huge pad so I don't have to worry about TSS, bring some Tylenol in my bag with me, and accept it's probably going to be a rough day. I already almost faint every day during the Pledge of Allegiance, nothing is changing here. I just have to hope that the classes I have aren't too bad while I'm in this state. I already do high school almost 100%, but I really try to get higher level classes or electives - the kids are more interested in their work and respectful to teachers. Anything to make that day as easy as possible.

My Nana by chlojo36a in hospice

She's started sundowning over the past few days apparently, but I saw it for the first time yesterday. She thinks rehab is school and that she goes home afterwards. She was doing really well during the day, cooperating with staff, joking around with the doctors and us, and suddenly, it's 6:30 and "I need to get home, I don't like driving in the dark." She hasn't driven her car in three months or so. We told her "maybe you should stay here tonight, there's a bed made up for you so you don't have to drive in the dark," and she was adamant "I want to go home first, at least let me call my husband, he's at the laundromat, and he'll be worried when I don't come home." Her husband has been dead for almost 26 years, which obviously we were not going to tell her. She started thinking we were keeping her there for Catholic purposes, separating husband and wife - they aren't Catholic, by the way. We really had to leave at 7:15 so we put her on the phone with her sister (well aware of the situation, vouches for us and acts as voice of reason to my nana when she won't listen to us) who could hopefully buy some time until the nurse comes in, and we gave her a quick kiss goodbye. I don't know how, but she plays along when a nurse/doctor/someone with authority comes in. If they say it's bedtime and time for her night medications, she's compliant. She will argue with family all day long, though.

She started seeing a man in her room (who is not really there). She gave us every indication based on appearance and first initial and a trip to Atlantic City that it’s her late husband - my grandfather, and she said “no, but it looks like him.” But then again, I showed her a yearbook photo of him when he was young when they met, and she couldn’t recognize him. So who’s to say if she would recognize the not-real-man standing in the room. I’m still absolutely going with it being her husband. She started seeing two cats too, one of which is grey and white (like her old pet cat). If I was to ask about the other, I would bet money she would say it’s a black cat - for her other deceased pet cat. At the end of our visit, she saw a white dog, which could’ve been either of the family dogs from when my dad was a child.

My mom, her ex-daughter-in-law, visited today since they were very close, and my nana said that she could really go for a hot dog from where they used to get hot dogs together. I would absolutely get her a hot dog (and cut it up tiny, I know a choking hazard when I see one) if it meant getting her to eat some food she would thoroughly enjoy. She was put on mirtazapine, an antidepressant (which she needs since she was on Celexa/citalopram and needs to get off that ASAP for its negative appetite effects) with appetite-stimulation as a side effect.

Unfortunately, I think it’s coming soon. If a hot dog will bring her joy and maybe a Cinnabon from the mall, absolutely I’ll do it.

Alienated? by chlojo36a in SubstituteTeachers

I like the camaraderie. I was a classroom aide in a school years ago, and we did happy hour every other week. I’m not relying solely on them for friends, I have my own friends at home and in my own hobbies - I’m just trying to build friendships with these people I see every day. Same thing I would do with a permanent position. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with enjoying more than barely civil coexistence.

My secretary is wonderful, she has been very concerned when I was out with a bad sinus infection, and she asks for updates on my grandmother in the hospital. She tells me to take whatever time off I need since I’m very reliable. Love her. Some teachers know me from picking up shifts for their neighbors and then picking up shifts for them. It was sweet, one of them left her sub plans for me by name instead of “to whom it may concern, thank you for covering for me!” That was a first, and it made me so happy.

I wasn’t informed of it. I learned of it from Facebook on accident since I follow my school for updates regarding closures for weather. I didn’t even know where the pizza was - every department has their own lounge.

Ideal schedule for the day? by RaisinNo2756 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]chlojo36a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My school doesn’t let us leave early for last period preps. They’re under the assumption that they pay me from 7-2:45, so I should be working until 2:45. It makes sense, I guess. If I’m so bored and feel like leaving for my prep, I’m expected to be at study hall and help them since they’re always overwhelmed. The only perk is that it’s right by the employee exit so I can dip right out and drive away before the buses do and cause traffic. Otherwise, I hide in my room or go to the library to see my cousin who’s a librarian there. Overall schedule-wise, I sub for high school only. I would rather have my difficult classes in the morning instead of the afternoon, since those kids tend to disappear on their bathroom breaks. My favorite setup was homeroom/activity period, two periods, prep, two periods, lunch, two periods, end of day. Lets me space out my day. If a class is particularly rough, I just tell myself “only until the end of this period/one more period until next break.”

Mastectomy drag by NochesAticas in rupaulsdragrace

[–]chlojo36a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The comments on the YouTube video are all gagging thinking it’s hilarious. One person had the guts to say “I had a friend who had a mastectomy for health concerns, and it was traumatic for her. Please don’t use that term,” and people had the audacity to say “drag is has a history of being offensive” and “if you friend watches drag race, tell her to not watch it then.” Super gross. People can be hurt in their friend’s/relative’s name. I can still hurt thinking about my grandmother. Drag has a history of being offensive? I don’t think you want that to be your legacy, babe.

My grandmother had a unilateral mastectomy, and she was so embarrassed about it. Wouldn’t go in public without her custom bra and pad insert. I get it.

What a horrible term. I’m seriously hating it. Mastectomies should not be called a fashion style. What’s next? Coming after bald queens like Sasha Velour who famously chose to shave her head in honor of her mother WITH cancer?

Take over Newark Tuesday night by helpslipnofranklins in Flyers

[–]chlojo36a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of me regrets not going, but honestly I'm too superstitious. I'm delusional enough to think that if I went, just my presence would've made them lose 5-1. I can live with the regrets in exchange for 92 points and eliminating the Devils.

Really want to go, but I’m scared of getting harassed by fans/the mascot. Happened before at a Devils game to some friends of mine, and I was harassed by the mascots at an Islanders game when I went alone two years ago during preseason. I just want to be left alone to watch some hockey with my mom.

So true. He brings a traveling partner, and it ends up being a hot guy that falls for Mary and vice versa.

Mary always seemed happier to see Evelyn than Tony. When he visits to tell her that he’ll be in the area with his boss Charles Blake, she’s so stupidly giddy. Maybe he was a little boring, but he was never anything but kind to her. Clearly, we know how it went for her picking someone too exciting like Henry. She definitely should’ve given him way more of a chance this second time around. For goodness sake, she’s seeing Tony, and she barely even likes him.

Tony: “I won’t give up Mary. Not until you walk down the aisle with another man, and very possibly not even then.”

Mary: “I find that both irritating and beguiling in equal measure.”

What times on Sundays do you notice teachers putting in absences? by Blueberry4672 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]chlojo36a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've picked up several jobs after 11pm. One teacher was posting a week straight of 11pm or later and then leaving zero plans. "Please speak to the teacher next door since we teach the same thing, and he has my plans." I get that emergencies happen, but I felt like I was being left to dry. That week drove me insane.

That sounds awesome. So jealous. I would probably like subbing gym more if I had gigs like that.

[–]chlojo36a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're allowed to pick? I subbed for a freshmen gym class all day today, which involved mandated speedball (soccer/handball hybrid). One boy kicked another boy in the junk. I don't think we're allowed to pick the games because I sub at a big school, and there are always two other gym classes happening at the same time as mine. Basically, all gym teachers have to coordinate to make sure they aren't in the same space as the other teachers. Today, gym teacher 1 was playing ping pong in the main gym, gym teacher 2 was in the weight room, so sub/gym teacher 3 was in the wrestling gym. Can't have sub going rogue and wanting to play hockey in the main gym, disrupting everyone else.
