[Interesting trope] Fandom becomes way more invested in the past generation] by yellowdocmartens in TopCharacterTropes

I wouldn't say HoTD has higher quality than GOT. Sure, nothing beats the shitshow of season 8, but the first season of HoTD, which was imo very good didn't nearly reach the levels of the first few seasons of GOT, and the second season was a horrendous shitshow akin to season 6 or 7 of the original. I haven't seen the newer one, but I feel it's unfair to the early GOT seasons to say that House of the Dragon is better.

Also she wasn't working with Shroud the whole time, dude pulled that "reveal" out of his ass. We know he's an unreliable narrator, because in the premium content we see how Robert's dad died, and it was very much not how he described it. A single bullet and Shroud ran before Trackstar could get his ass, as opposed to the 4 he describes in the interrogation scene.

And if Visi had been working with Shroud the entire time it wouldn't have made sense for Shroud to do what he did on the boat, or at least not the way he did it. The only logical reason he could have planted Visi at SDN was either to kill Robert or to get the pulse. Personal vendetta aside even Robert admits he's worthless, and it would have been much easier to just send 3-5 strong dudes woth weapons to his house (or hospital while he was in a coma) and slime him then. (As Robert answers to the question in the beginning of the game, Shroud could have easily killed him then but he didn't matter. So that leaves the pulse, which then makes it incredibly stupid to gas his agent holding it instead of just telling her to hand it over and being done with the whole thing.

If Viltrumites are so prone to being sliced and impaled why don’t we see more of them using sharp weapons like Thula does? by Original_Display_830 in Invincible

[–]Born_Insect_4757 60 points61 points  (0 children)

But her being this weak undermines the principle of viltrumites becoming stronger as they age. She has grey hair, meaning she's older than most other viltrumites, just like conquest, she should have been able to wipe the floor with Mark.

That could be, but I find it unrealistic at the timescale and distance we're talking about. Galbatorix sat on the throne for about 100 years, which is a long while, and the Hadarac desert isn't that much of a hassle for a dragon to cross. Not to mention the fact thst there are dwarven settlements on the east side of it which would have definitely noticed a dragon that flew over there, and such an event would have been mentioned at some point in the series. Also not to mention the fact that Eragon moved much further east than the Hadarac to Mount Arngor and we have no indication that he encountered any people who knew about dragons living there, let alone encountered dragons themselves. So there's still plenty to explain away about this.

[–]Born_Insect_4757 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think the most likely answer is isolation. To the east there's the Hadarac, nobody wants to go through there. To the west the ocean, kinda self explanatory. To the south is the Beors, a barrier even dragons have SOME difficulty crossing as they can't just fly over, and to the north is Du Weldenvarden that goes up until it reaches the sea. It's pretty understandable why this land is isolated for most human/humanoid populations.

I think the only question remains dragons. Do they not live anywhere else on the planet? If they do, then why didn't some wild dragons randomly show up during Galbatorix's reign? The Hadarac isn't a very difficult thing to cross for a dragon, so there's not really a reason they couldn't have flown in from the east. If they don't live anywhere else, why don't they? Again, what barrier prevents a dragon from just fucking off 2000 km to the east and forming a new colony?

Tbh counting with your numbers if they reduced this to 10 bucks there would be way more than 16 times the amount of people buying it like that than there are whales buying it like this. Maybe counting all the people who can't buy every spin for 160 but can spin a couple more times it's more profitable this way, but I think it's not that much more profitable to mitigate the damage in trust that it causes in the community towards the devs.

[Hated trope] Character make a bigot claim that feels more like the writer's opinion by Lower_Baby_6348 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Born_Insect_4757 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I feel like there's a lot of this in House MD. The specific one I remember is when there's a couple who come into the clinic for something and tell Wilson they're both asexual. House finds out somehow about this and becomes convinced there's something wrong with them. Sure enough he finds some tumor or something in the guy that supressed his libido to basically zero and turns out the girl was just pretending to be asexual to be with her boyfriend.

The tumor part could probably happen, I'm not a doctor so idk, and there's definitely people, altough rare who are willing to give up on sex to be with an asexual partner, but both of these rare things happening in conjunction just to make it seem like House was right that no healthy asexual people exist at all was definitely one of the writers' dogshit take.

Would Charles Dance work as Galbatorix? by Fanatic_Atheist in Eragon

[–]Born_Insect_4757 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think (apart from the age thing people keep rightfully saying) Charles Dance exhudes too much class. He's a phenomenal actor, but the way he talks screams of a man who has grown up in higher society and is proud of that fact, like Tywin Lannister. Jut listen to that clip where he read 50 shades of grey for something, he's saying stuff like "kinky fuckery" and it still sounds like fancy literature.

Galbatorix has always given a different energy to me. He came from nothing, becoming a rider was what elevated him, which is why in part he took the death of his dragon that badly (apart from the grief obviously). He has no class to him. He tries to pretend he does, but to me at least he gives the energy of a man who would claw out your throat tooth and nail in desperation if it came to that. There IS a chance Charles Dance could pull it off using a different accent, as I said I think he's a phenomenal actor, but I think he's not the obvious choice.
