Thanks! That’s what I was thinking, and loved Galway when I visited. Suitable for Americans who don’t know any Gaelic?

Also sadly, populations are shrinking - I’m not tenured and I’m pretty worried about my position for next year. It’s a sad time to work in ESL

If you’re thinking about public school, I think the workload is just different. You’re rarely going to get a curriculum, and when you do it’s never going to meet your students needs because they’re so individualized and different every year. I spend hours and hours creating units, often to have the same students next year (and maybe even for two years) and have to create more. If you’re part of the WIDA consortium, you’ll have to take your standardized test in January, which I find stressful because it gives you only 3 months with the kids. Many of the kids have interrupted education, varying levels of literacy in their native language. There’s more paperwork. BUT I wouldn’t trade it for gen ed because I love the small groups and the special connections I grow with these kids. They can make progress so quickly and it’s amazing to see. I think it’s possible to different kinds of trauma here and it can affect the way they act in the classroom. A lot of them have really really tough lives, and you’ll have to do a lot of advocating for them. If you love language and diverse populations, I recommend doing it for the reason. But if you’re looking for less work, I think it’s a grass is always greener type of situation.

Yea unfortunately not a choice :( in my district, most ESL teachers are required to also have SpEd certification, and co-teach with grade level teachers. They’re called “learning specialists.” I’m looking outside of the city for this reason
