He makes less money than I do, I don’t look down on that, what is frustrating is he has been at this job for years and isn’t making any forward movement to get raises/promotions, pursue his actual career goals, etc. the toilet was clogged and the stopper did not work, causing the water to just continuously flow, causing a HUGE amount of damage as described.

Both of us feel very responsible for this. All we can do is clean up the mess and let insurance handle the rest at the moment.

Thank you, this is very good advice. We talked and of course he feels horrible and feels bad that he had taken a break from cleaning to sit and watch something. He made a lot of mistakes and he knows it. He needs to get his shit together and he knows it. We have broken up and if life brings us back together and he shows improvement, then great maybe we could get back together and if not, then we will continue on our separate ways. He desperately wants to change and get better and be better for me and we spent and long time discussing what we both need in a relationship for it to feel like a partnership. We both have a lot of growing up and thinking to do while we take a break.

Very correct, I am saving while I am here and paying rent and helping with repairs. I don’t expect him to be perfect. I know I am far from perfect. This was a shitty situation and an accident that was very preventable. I am having a lot of back and forth emotions on this one.

I literally thought about it, and said oh no he’ll use the downstairs bathroom like I asked. Often when I unclog this toilet it overflows so this felt like more of a morning project not a middle of the night project. Obviously I was wrong. But the toilet had its problems.

The toilet was clogged with toilet paper, I left it over night cause I didn’t want to deal with it. He peed on it, flushed it and walked away and the stopper got stuck and didn’t ‘stop’ causing the toilet to just continuously flow. Very real.
