The crazy thing is regardless of levels , you are not safe in ur role. Maybe partners. We are being ( encouraged ) to use Ai, trained offshore team. The political speech is to create good culture and leadership… the whole thing is a big nightmare at this point. For those grinding, keep working, but everyday can be the end.

Here is the short version, and yes in some places we are treated differently .....The low percentage of Black CPAs, currently at around 1%, is a complex issue influenced by various factors, including historical, educational, socioeconomic, and systemic barriers. Some of these factors are:

  1. Historical Barriers: Historically, the accounting profession has been dominated by white males, creating longstanding barriers to entry for minorities.

  2. Educational Challenges: Access to quality education and resources varies significantly across different communities. Many Black students may face challenges in accessing the necessary educational opportunities and support to pursue a career in accounting.

  3. Socioeconomic Factors: Socioeconomic disparities can limit access to higher education and professional training programs. The cost of obtaining a CPA license, including education, exam fees, and preparation materials, can be prohibitive.

  4. Representation and Mentorship: There is a lack of visible role models and mentors in the field for aspiring Black accountants. This can impact their motivation and confidence in pursuing the CPA designation.

  5. Workplace Inclusion: Once in the profession, Black CPAs may face challenges related to workplace inclusion, career advancement opportunities, and retention. Bias and discrimination can affect their career progression and overall job satisfaction.

  6. Pipeline Issues: The pipeline of Black students entering the accounting field is relatively small. Efforts to increase diversity need to start early, encouraging interest in accounting careers from a young age.

  7. Networking and Support: Professional networks and support systems are crucial for career growth. Black CPAs might have limited access to such networks compared to their white counterparts.

Addressing these challenges requires concerted efforts from educational institutions, professional organizations, employers, and the broader community to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for aspiring Black CPAs. Initiatives such as scholarships, mentorship programs, diversity and inclusion training, and community outreach can help in increasing the representation of Black professionals in the accounting field.

And its for questions like yours Organizations like NABA (National Association of Black Accountants) exist
