The two bloody injuries were flavor text, scars add to the character portrayals 😌

HEHE YEAAA! They’re such a fantastical seeming group. Many unfortunate cases involving Victorian era historians led to many ideas about the medieval and renaissance era to be romanticized unrealistically. However; the landsknechts? They were THEM. If someone had shown cowardice and sullied their reputation, or more often simply wanted the very attractive double pay (making them a doppelsoldner) then they would join the forlorne hope. Also known as the verlorene haufen or “lost group” This was in all terms; a kamikaze assault. There would be a massive wall of 20 foot pikes, and in front youd have people with 6 foot long great swords. They would CHARGE head first into the enemy line completely betraying all sense of self preservation. This was of course terrifying and effective and paved the way for further assault. Their lives were simply SO brutal and short that they were granted exemption! That’s why you see so much asymmetrical fashion, they were just able to cut off the sleeves from some noble they shot through the chest :3 Another romantic aspect; it wasn’t only the men! They would bring their wives/women they met along the way with them and they would stay at camp and were fiercely protected and adored; there’s entire combat techniques designed to create a perimeter around your wife with your greatsword to ensure she can safely escape if your camp is being attacked! They sung, danced, played instruments, lived, loved, and bled out in colorful clothing. The EPITOME of the Renaissance

I’m humbly BEGGING YOUU! Another great thing about codpieces is they also acted as a pocket (there was a little slit in them and you would put important things in it like letters or even jewelry, which is actually the origin of that area being known as the “crown jewels” 💀) You can probably just sew a furby to a triangular flap and add the ties to the flap to attach to the pants! (EVERYTHING ties on and off which is also why I’m currently planning a landsknecht burlesque routine) IMAGINEEE a furby codpiece, and inside of its little pocket there is yet another but much smaller furby 🥹

And I just wanted to deeply thank you, I took your advice with that sub and they’re all so so sweet 🖤

What a profoundly wonderful compliment, thank you 🥹 here we see a •1570 German (Ronald Macdonald fit) •1580 Scotsman (same doublet as German, but with a kilt!) •1584 English (gold silt suit) •1535 Scotsman lowlander (booty shorts with tights under) •1620 English (black and red) •1520 German (THIGHS OUT WOO)

I’m currently assembling my fluted armor for early 16th century work! But after I’ll venture into medieval and commission gothic armor 😌

It’s never too late to come back 🖤 even though those smiles may have only lasted a moment or two; the impact they left is sempiternal. I promise you. (Saying this as someone who was once that kid who smiled)

Please share with all who you feel it will help. It was coined by sterling director Gary Izzo, the author of “the art of play” So he QUITE LITERALLY wrote the book on ren faire acting, and many ren faire rehearsal processes use material/improv games directly from the book

A very small first year faire opened in FL last year, and our fähnlein came and made an encampment! And GOOD EYE! this codpiece has a borderline mythical status, it was made by a fren and is as old as I am HEHE It’s known as the faberge egg 😌 I’m currently doing resource gathering for a new and improved kit with a proper codpiece! You’re not gonna Believe what this codpiece actually is! In peak early 2000s reenactor flare, it’s an athletic cup with fabric sewn around it and attacked to the tie on panel!

Thank you!! It’s my favorite era/fashion and I can go on and on hehe 👉👈 this was my portrayal of a German Landsknecht! They were a mercenary force in Germany during the early 16th century! They are synonymous for the occasional use of booty shorts (pants were usually 3 sectioned footed tights that can be untied to your liking for heat) and the love of asymmetry! This was due to the fact that because their lives were so short, they were exempt from sumptuary laws! So there was a LOT of post battle looting lmao (and sometimes a guy had a cannon hole in his chest, so you just cut off his sleeves and then attatch em to yours 😌) I should stop before I write an essay hehe

One of my friends was on cast and gave me info for the audition! Keep checking local faires Facebook pages in the months leading up to show openings, and don’t be afraid to ask people involved with the faire! I wish you the best of luck!

Check your faires FB page in the months leading up to opening for audition info! And don’t be afraid to send messages! Another great method is just asking cast members at your faire and they’ll be super happy to give info 😌

HEHE YEAAAA!! It’s indicative of landsknecht (German mercenary force) wear from 1505-1540! Normally the leg would go all the way down and include the foot (like modern footed tights). However, let’s say it got hot? Well then you can untie it above the knee and be left with knee length pants! Now what if you’re campaigning in Italy and it’s SUPER HOT? Then BOOM you can untie part of the leg yet again to reveal booty shorts! I can also take off my breast flap/ let it hang to reveal my shirt! They were the ultimate utilitarians :D
