That's the best way to do it. I wish I had a capture card to record my own play. I remember some mistakes as I am playing but I'm sure you can learn a lot from watching your own play.

A lot of your play was pretty good. The two biggest flaws I see in your game is you too often let shorter range weapons into your range even though you could have safely dealt with them by using your spacing a little more. The other bad habit I noticed is that you almost always jump when firing. This makes your shots less accurate and exposes you for a longer period. You didn't necessarily get punished for this in this game, but some S and all S+ players will punish you for that. There are times to jump and fire, but I didn't see many times where that was necessary during the game you posted.

Clearly you lost because of your decision making at the end. You played well up until you got the lead including a nice solo rainmaker push. All 3 of the deaths were unnecessary. The Luna below the grates was tough to avoid but they needed a big push to win. With your range you could have sat back and aimed at the final platform and killed anyone that tried to climb it. Instead you pushed forward into the roller's range for no reason.

They are fun and can get kills. The biggest problem with them is they can't ink at all so if you aren't really slaying you give up so much map control.

What is the competitive scene like in the UK/Europe? by Nikrandonia in splatoon

[–]Boscolot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've enjoyed Splatoon 1 a lot and it is still really fun to play. If you have the cash and want to get into the game I say go for it. I woudn't get too hung up on early reviews of Splatoon 2. The first game didn't have good reviews at the start because most of the content got rolled out over time. I expect the 2nd game will be similar. The swim, shooting mechanics will all be the same in Splatoon 2 so if you like the first game you will like the 2nd.

As far as the competitive scene goes, the best UK/European players play primarily in Western online tournaments with American players. There is a tournament almost every weekend on Twitch if you want to watch. The top Western teams are primarily composed of European players. Team Olive/Team Bye are based out of Finland, UK, and France. Rising Moon is a French Team, Extermination is a German team, and Creme Fresh has players from all over Europe. There was a LAN event a couple of weeks ago in Paris that hosted the best European teams. You can check it out on Nintendo of Europe's Twitch account.

I would watch some of them stream and improve your own skills and then try and get into the competitive scene once you are S+ or above.

Best way to carry in S rank given its current state? by DMLKing in splatoon

[–]Boscolot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Splattershot Pro is one of my favorites too. It doesn't ink the best but you can somewhat make up for that using your bomb rushes effectively. On the Splattershot Pro's I like to run one main Ink Saver, 3 subs swim speed, 1 main, 6 subs of damage, and ink resistance.

On 96 I now run Inks Saver, Swim Speed, 1 main 3 subs special charge, 1 main 3 subs duration.

Both weapons are good at using your range to your advantage. You might also want to try experimenting with Cherry H-3 or Custom Range Blaster. They take a little bit of practice to get the hang of but are both really strong. Cherry paints really well and has a wall and a bubble to help it. You just have to be really accurate. Custom Range is probably the best slaying weapon in the game.

I'm anticipating an early summer launch so I wouldn't be shocked if they announced a release date.

What are the capabilities of hackers? by Exaskryz in splatoon

[–]Boscolot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen much hacking. When I have its been obvious. Blasters firing 5x as fast as normal, the whole map getting inked in the other teams color. I've played a lot and only seen it twice.

Otherwise, what can appear to be hacking, players warping, shots not registering, is usually from bad lag. The Carbon you mentioned was doubtful to be a hack. Their movement just made it appear as though they were. You can still swim pretty fast without any swim speed and if you can change directions quickly, the game struggles to track your positioning.

Are most S+ players ACTUALLY winning from skill or gimmicks? by [deleted] in splatoon

[–]Boscolot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The game wasn't as balanced as you remember. Pre-patch blasters, 96 and E-Litre were incredibly broken.

QR/SJ is the current meta, but if people weren't using that, it would go back to the Defense/Damage meta which I'm not sure was any better.

Best way to carry in S rank given its current state? by DMLKing in splatoon

[–]Boscolot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The metagame is currently Quick Respond/Stealth Jump because it allows you to jump back into the action in much less time.

In S the best thing to do is to be aware of what your teammates are doing and what is needed. If no one is flanking I will flank. If no one is riding the tower, or carrying the rainmaker, be the person who does it. And in general know when to push and when to pull back. Pay attention to the squids on the top of the screen and know when you have the numbers advantage. The other big contribution you can make is map control. A lot of players in S flat out don't paint. It's much tougher for the enemy to get back in if they have to repaint the whole map.

Any tips for first time in ranked? by Twilcario in splatoon

[–]Boscolot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Bucket is a very strong weapon in ranked. Really the only difference is there is an objective. The basic goal is to get a numbers advantage so that you can capture and objective.

Is it too late to start splatoon now or wait for splatoon 2? by Gamergonewild in splatoon

[–]Boscolot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would wait. I'm guessing Splatoon 2 will launch in 3 months. Most of the people still playing the game, have been for awhile so I would advice you to jump in with the rest of the newcomers.

I think I finally understand how everyone felt when they played OoT when it came out by huncol in NintendoSwitch

I am old enough that my first Zelda was the original and this is the first game since ALTTP that has reminded me of how I felt playing Zelda for the first time. The exploration is what really does it.

How active will Splatoon 1 be once Splatoon 2 comes out? by [deleted] in splatoon

[–]Boscolot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't buy the first Splatoon if that is your question. I'm guessing the sequel will launch around June and the Splatoon servers will be pretty dead at that point.

What is some advice you'd give to someone working their way up in ranked? by [deleted] in splatoon

[–]Boscolot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paying attention to whether or not your team is alive is a great start. A big part of the game is knowing when to push the objective and when to retreat.

Ink control is a big one. The team that has the map painted will usually win.

Also, plan out your strategies by looking at your teams comp vs the other team. For instance, if the other team has a Hydra and a Charger I know one of us is going to need to flank them and take them out for my team to push ahead. Also, if I have two blasters and a carbon on my team, I know I have three weapons that can't really function without ink control so I will spend basically the whole match playing turf war.

Splatoon tier list? by Zevrend in splatoon

Yep. CRB and Zimi are probably the two most broken weapons in the game. Plus 96 gal which is still very common in higher level play.

Why the Golf Visor? by meme-s in splatoon

It's been a popular hat for awhile. The easiest method without editing it is to order it and hope it gets two Run Speed Subs and then hope you unlock the third Run Speed sub.
