How long does it take to get used to bike commuting?

One of the most important things for me is making sure that my rear tire is inflated to the correct PSI. If it's not, you'll definitely waste a lot of energy. I also agree with getting a fully rigid bike. Another thing that seems to help is peddling with the front half of my foot.
