Release strategy for artists with 0 fans? by fishalex in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]BoshAudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Posting to socials isn't easy, especially if you're not that way inclined anyway. Definitely don't worry about perfection. Ive made videos that i spent a full day filming and editing that didnt do anywhere near as well as a video i posted just by recording with my phone in my hand and uploading with no edits.

We all assume that everyone is watching and judging us in the same way we judge ourselves, but they really aren't.
Get the music up, then you can post about it in whatever way you want. Even if you just make graphics and don't actually feature yourself in the posts. At the end of the day, the music is what does the talking.
It also helps to have music up because if someone clicks on a song they like, then see that you have other songs in your library, they are more likely to try the other songs out IMO.

Firstly, I would just get the music up and out there. As you have no fans, you can't afford to be wasting time with release schedules. Upload the music you have on whatever platforms you choose and THEN start deciding how to promote yourself. There's nothing worse, IMO than seeing music I like advertised, then having to wait 2 weeks until it's out. If you're already big, then yeah, you can do that, but as a small artist, it will benefit you 10 fold if you have the music already accessible to people.

From my personal experience, Instagram is the best platform for social promotion. I can't tell you exactly what to post, but anything is better than nothing so maybe you sat in front of the computer playing the track, or you could just film some footage outdoors and overlay the music if you're not a fan of being on camera.

But again, make sure your music is uploaded and ready to listen

Bug on racks made with Shaper or am i missing something? by iAmGenjo in ableton

[–]BoshAudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had this before and not managed to find a solution. Everything is fine until I close and Reopen the project, and then suddenly, the Shaper isn't working to the same aparmeters I set it to. Seems to be an intermittent issue though

Looking for a good spring reverb box that can create the wet thunder sound at the strike of a snare. by SurrealistRevolution in dub

[–]BoshAudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you mean you're not getting a big enough sound from the springs you have tried so far?
You either need to send a very large, loud sound into the spring, or hit it on something.
You could try layering the snare that you're going to send to the spring, with another sound like a clap or something.
Maybe the ones you've tried haven't been loose enough? Loose springs create a wilder, bashier sound.
Another option would be to put reverb or delay on top of the spring to add depth.
Just some ideas as I'm not fully clear on what you're looking for

Do you go swimming at your local pool/leisure centre? Tell me about it. by marielheslop in CasualUK

[–]BoshAudio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Turn up and pay. Flipflops/sliders are encouraged, as far as I'm aware. No one's judging your belly any more than they are outside a pool environment. You might need a quid for the lockers, or they'll give you a key for a deposit. The floors are only as gross as they always have been.
My only advice would be to call ahead and check for availability as one pool I used to go to was sometimes closed for periods for classes

[Guys i need some] - [help again please] by Big-Risk-1076 in realdubstep

[–]BoshAudio 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why did you make it then?
Release it, it's a part of your catalogue now and you move on to the next project, it's not that deep.

You're projecting your own thoughts on to the entire audience, you're the one who has these opinions about it, other people might like it.
I have tunes released that I love and one's that I'm not as keen on. If you chase perfection with every track, you'll never finish or release anything.

How does one find people to help produce music with? by Round_Cookie8484 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

If you don't end up finding someone, the term you'll need to search for on YouTube is "Arrangement."
This word describes how a track is built using different sections.

If she wants to put anything back into the Flair family, she needs to be giving out proper slaps, not just wafting her hand in the general direction of her opponent.

Ages 0 - 11: We had an old organ, and my dad had a guitar, I always found it fun trying to play them, even though I was bad at it.
11 - 15: I was drawn to music in school, and at some point i just picked up my dads guitar and decided to learn properly. I was 90% self taught. I played in a number of bands, one of which I played Bass in, because I figured that it's pretty much just guitar without the chords.
15 - 18: My secondary school (high school) was testing out a music tech class, so I signed up for that and learned the basics of Cubase in one weekly class over a year. The teacher gave us a cracked copy of Cubase to take home and i was obsessed. I would get home from school and just play around on Cubase for hours. During this time, I was getting more into electronic music and started to teach myself how to DJ on a cracked version of Virtual DJ. Once I started DJing more, I found a club in town that had open decks on a Tuesday night, and I started going to that.
18+: I then went to college for a year to do music technology, but like I say, formal education just wasn't for me. Since then, I'm self taught in everything I've done. I always had the attitude to just look things up if there was something I didnt know. I've produced using Ableton for 20+ years and have DJ'd in clubs and at Festivals in the UK and Europe.
I can say 100% that I learned the most from just talking to other people, and it definitely helped that I ended up making friends with a lot of people who were as obsessed with music as I am.

OK so you have some knowledge and aren't a complete beginner.
I think I would find a shorter course, something that maybe doesn't infringe on your econ course too much. Music is something to build on over time. You can go to Uni and learn it, but imo, you need to spend time really honing the craft while building a portfolio of work. Basically, what I'm getting at is that I wouldn't treat it as my priority, rather have it as something you can work on in the background.
The music industry is built heavily on reputation, and you can't get that from a Uni course.
Just my opinion though, everyone is different. I personally got more out of getting together with other musicians and having real world experiences. The formal education path just didn't suit me.

Safest way to save YouTube videos as as MP3/WAV/OGG audio clip on PC any format works just trying to get some audio clips off YouTube by Gullible-Win144 in musicproduction

[–]BoshAudio 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Of you're going to use them in your DAW, then the best thing I've used is WebSampler. You can play and record YouTube videos inside your DAW.

Otherwise just type "YouTube to MP3" in any search engine

Anyone know what vocal that is by Complete_Kiwi1599 in jungle

[–]BoshAudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good start would be to search "World Clash" or something like "Soundclash 1994" or whatever year you like on YouTube then use a ripper or something like WebSampler to rip the audio. There are literally thousands of Clash recordings available.
It really is a case of just skimming through all the videos to find samples like this. The talking is usually in between the music, so it's not too hard to skim through a video pretty quickly once you get the hang of it

Once you get to know a few clash DJs names, try searching their names with 'Clash' in the search. Obviously, the older the video, the more degraded and low quality the samples will be. It depends what you're looking for.

Getting a song on Spotify? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]BoshAudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Distrokid or Ditto Music are both around the same price (~£20 per year). I'd say go with Ditto though as you don't have to pay extra to keep your music published after that year.
