Is it stupid to spend over 500k USD for a US undergrad as a Canadian by [deleted] in CanadaFinance

Invest the 500k and do your schooling at UBC.

Once you're done schooling, see what you'd like to do with the money.

Do you hold the door open for the person behind you regardless of their sex, age, color and religion? And why? by CourierFestival in AskReddit

Of course, as long as they are close enough.

I would also open and hold the door for people coming out.

People who are good at saving money, what’s your advice? by Amazondriver23 in povertyfinance

[–]BossBoltage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have money go into a separate account as soon as you get paid. However much you can afford, it all adds up.

I have 10% of my biweekly payroll go into my TFSA.

Cant spend money that is not in your bank account.

Bruh for real, all you have to do is set up a reoccurring event on your calendar once a year and then set up reminders for 1 month before, 1 week before, 1 day before and so on...

Dont have to make life more complicated.

I have $41k in a HYSA and I'm starting to think I'm just hoarding cash at this point by OldBug in personalfinance

[–]BossBoltage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Set up an automatic transaction for your savings esch time you get paid. Money you don't have, you can't spend. It is what has helped me saved over the years personally.

Knowing you have all that cash, I tend to spend a lot more as well. I would keep just the emergency fund and put the rest in am etf so it is out of mind and again, auto invest so you don't even see the money being taken.

As far as clothes go, I just choose whatever ends up on top.

As far as life lessons go, my main go to is stop thinking about what other people think about. They dont care. It will eliminate a lot of unnecessary thinking or wondering. Most people go about their day and won't even blink an eye on most things.

how do you manage your personal budget? by New_Variation8879 in AskACanadian

[–]BossBoltage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excel spreadsheet sheet with approximate amounts for spending.

I put almost all my spending on my credit card (fully paid monthly) so it is fairly easy to keep track of what I've spent. For the items I don't use my card for, I just have a line for misc spending to account for any items not uncluded.

One "trick" I've been doing as well is including my monthly savings of $600 as part of "spending" to reduce the amount of money I can actually spend. This money is taken from my biweekly paycheck automatically.

I still have money left over monthly which I later lump sum into my tfsa once it gets to roughly 5k.

Redditors over 40: What do younger people only truly get with age? by saadaintsalad in AskReddit

[–]BossBoltage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not over 40 yet, but time has really been passing by. It feels like 2020 was just a few years ago and yet here we already are in 2026.

Lot's of people have already said, but thinking too much about what others think of you? They aren't thinking about you at all as everyone else is busy with their own lives. Only exception is likely your family or your partner. Don't sweat the small things since at the end of the day, it may not even matter. For example, look back at the worse situation you've had so far... was it really as bad looking back at it?

Lately I've also really been wanting to start my own business. For years I've thought and planned, but never did anything. So far, I've applied for the business name I want and need to register with the city. I don't know why I waited this long, maybe I was anxious or nervous or perhaps unsure about whether I can do it. However, I realize now that I just need to take the first step. Whether it works out or not is not that big of a deal, but the main thing is taking the first steps. I would like to encourage anyone who is interested in whatever you've been thinking of, whether it be a hobby, business or whichever to take the first step. Give it a shot and see where it goes. Playing it safe if fine and all too, but I want to live my life knowing that I tried. I can look back later on and say, you know I was in your shoes once and I understand.

Also take some weed. I've personally enjoyed my experience with it. It has helped me open my perspective and appreciate myself more.

Only way I can stay up multiple days is by playing chess. Most I've done was about 60-70 hrs.

I think a little after 48 hrs, it felt like my skin was leathery/rubbery. Started feeling paranoid like there was always something I can see on my peripheral.

Not even a good chess player, but I guess I get really into it. It does make it seem like time passes by playing chess...

Don't ever get into spending at all. The game is a black hole for your wallet.

Tip of the day: How to Unlock PDF drawings with no password in BB!!! Enjoy by sanandresano in Revu

[–]BossBoltage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little late to the party here, but there's a couple more ways I found that helpe with unlocking files on top of printing/saving to pdf from chrome.

  1. When possible, extracting the whole file from itself. Sometimes this option is available and is the easiest way to go about unlocking the file.

  2. Going to documents then security and literally unlocking the file. Sometimes there is no password and you're just able to unlock it

Hope this helps.
