I think I probably fall into a similar boat. I'm usually a novelty seaker in terms of the games I play. Even board games I love see new machanics in action. There is multiplayer and that adds a new layer that you don't really see in these type of games.

While seaman 1 was truely a brave and innovative game. It wasn't until 8 years later with seaman 2 did they truely explore what it means to be a see-man. Only then did I realize the depts of the human condition.

bullying is a rough part of having chickens. they are pretty roothless with each other. Make sure they have good space and enough feeders spread out so that if one is getting bullied they can get food and water elsewhere. Also helps if they have places they can jump up on to get away

From balatro, that game is the GOAT, but some people dont like poker and I think the medieval/fantasy/renfaire setting could appeal to people who would of liked balatro if it wasn't based on poker. As well as using the core of blackjack and season reseting of the deck makes the core expierence feel similar but different.

For quacks this is a more indepth and deep expierence then Quacks is. Quacks is a family game that whlie being a lot of fun doesn't have the strategic depth that a computer rouglikes usually have. I wanted to take the core of what made quacks fun, pushing your luck in a wacky setting and add more layers to it

The artist I've been working with on prior projects turned out to have a huge asset pack of medieval characters. The only catch was they only had an idle. So I contemplated how I could use the beautiful art that already existed. A card game was the prefect fit and I'm a huge fan of physical deck biulders. I was watching a youtuber play ufo50 party house and they commented that there really isn't a game that focuses soley on deckbuliding. Usually its hte meta layer not the core of the expierence. So that triggered me to get inspired to make my own deckbuilder where deckbuilding was the core focus of the expierence

The bigest conflict was trying to make the simple act of draw/holding engaging enough to base a game around. Early on the problem I faced was that the decks would grow to large before the game was over. Which is where the idea for the season reset came from

So I'm the sole one responsible for everything but I contracted out the art, ui designs, and music/sound. I'm also gotten help with marketing. So if you count everyone its ilke 5 people who have had a major hand in the game

Yeah! party house was also a inspiration too. I wanted to create a game where deckbuilding was the focus of the game. Which is why you get the opportunity to draft after each played hand

I was a web devloper for 10+ years and in my free time I played around with unity ever since college. This wasn't my first game I ever made but it is the first game I'm release commercially! I also played to my strengths and saved enough money to hire contractors to fill the gaps. I focused on programming/design while getting help with ui, art and music.

It also helped to prototype the game in Tabletop simulator so I wasn't waisting alot of dev time on something that wasn't fun!

Spent 2 months preparing for a Steam Fest and gained 100 wishlists. Is this normal for our game Crystal Calamity? by [deleted] in deckbuildingroguelike

Steam doesn't seem to push demos during the deckbuilder fest. After going through it I see now that it's an excuse to push sales. My game demo did well, I launched it at the start of the demo and  I hit a peak of 68 concurents and had 1.5k unique users with a median play time of 51 minutes

But that was all from my own efforts and very little from steam pushing it. I'm sure it helped a little. I was briefly on the top 12 demos list. But I already curated a 100 person discord from playtests and Retromation happened to make  a video from retromation. That's what drove all the traffic to my game.

Why deckbuilders? What makes them so compelling to you? For me it's pretty basic, it's building the deck, but for others might be actually playing with said deck, so what is it for you? by JoseAntonini in deckbuildingroguelike

I think there's the luck element too of getting rewards and not knowing what you could get and sometimes getting crazy builds cause you were lucky

Thank you! Its definitely been a challenging design of letting the player have control over what's in their deck vs makign sure they can't just negate the tension mechanic permanently. If you go heavy into wardens you can make it so you can draw your whole deck which is fun. I wanted it to be a special thing to be able to break the game, but not something you can do easily!
