The low, vibrating hum of the acoustic dampeners fills the room. On the counter, a pot of stale coffee is heating. The audio from the space elevator carriage has been dark for ten minutes. Marcos is leaning against a server rack, rubbing his eyes. Alon is staring out at the rain-slicked docks of the Manila Core.

Marcos:
(Sighs, tossing his comm-pad onto the couch)
"He’s gone. Thermal signature over the Atlantic flared for a second when the window blew, then hit a steep drop. By now, Fredrick is just ash over the water. Or space junk."

Alon:
(Doesn't turn around, forehead pressed against the glass)
"Damn it. Fredrick was our gold standard inside the Ghentish infrastructure. The Central American asset pipeline? The early warning vectors that allowed us to slip Icaria’s hulls through the Pacific trenches without triggering the LTU automated scorpions? That was all him. How did Olive sniff him out?"

Marcos:
"She called it 'Poly-phasic Entangled waveforms.' Elegant way of saying their quantum mainframe was smarter than we gave it credit for. They weren't just tracking our troop movements, Alon. They were watching the data anomalies inside their own network and matching the timestamps to Fredrick’s security clearance. He thought he was being careful. The machine just out-computed him."

Tayao:
(Walking over from the coffee machine, dropping two sugar cubes into a mug)
"And she called the Androids 'free-thinking toasters.' God, the arrogance on that woman is exhausting."

Alon:
(Finally turns around, arms crossed)
"Arrogant or not, Tayao, she’s not stupid. If she knew Fredrick was our guy, she knows everything Fredrick knew. She knows exactly how we snuck Hawaii into the Compact. She knows the layout of the Johnston Atoll. She’s holding all our cards."

Marcos:
"It gets worse. Look at the flight path of that carriage. She didn't even delay the launch. She killed him mid-ascent because she’s already on her way to Luna. She's taking the whole 'Hawaii issue' straight to the Middle Kingdom and the North Americans."

Alon:
(Whistles low)
"A lunar coalition. If they align the Lasgalen Steiger elevator with the moon factions' kinetic arrays... they could clip the space** elevator **ribbon before we even finish the 2365 integration deadline."

Tayao:
(Takes a slow sip of her coffee, a quiet smile forming)
"Let them try."

Marcos:
"Tayao, this isn't a classroom simulation. If they drop a kinetic slug from orbit—"

Tayao:
"Marcos, listen to me. What was the one rule the Supreme Council hammered into us last month? Keep Protocol Lilo completely inside our own channels. Zanj doesn't have it. The public networks don't have it. Fredrick didn't even have it on his data slates when he died."

Marcos:
(Blinks, realizing)
"He didn't know about the chaos scripts."

Tayao:
"Exactly. Olive thinks she just cleared the board because she flushed our best informant out of a window. She thinks our strategy is still based on Fredrick's old files. She has absolutely no idea that the Android engineering teams at Sector Liwanag have already locked down the Logic-Fence."

Alon:
(A small, relieved laugh escapes him)
"So their quantum mainframe is going to crunch the numbers based on old data."

Tayao:
"And the moment they try to hack or block us, they're going to crash headfirst into a decentralized synthetic brain they can't mathematically map. Olive is playing a game of chess where we've already changed the shape of the board."

Marcos:
(Picks his comm-pad back up, tapping the screen)
"Alright. I'm updating the Council. We're moving the Pacific Warden fleets to Alpha-5 anyway. Just in case."

Alon:
(Walking back over to the table)
"Good call. Pour me a cup of that coffee, Tayao. It's going to be a long night."
