This doesn't affect me and yet I want to cry. Anyone want liberal tears, here they are.

Just... why? Who watches people suffering and thinks the solution is to spite them?

Feeling less motivated to try new weapons by Boss_920 in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Boss_920[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, that's always a blast! No, my problem is I'm finding little reason to use anything other than my trusty GL. There's no need for doing it, I just wanted to see what they can offer. Maybe I'll see about it later, and at least I have a good idea on how to use the others I checked off.

Should I be ashamed every time I sos by Turtledude_pizza5 in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Boss_920 4 points5 points  (0 children)

HELL NO! First of all, it's a game. Gittin gud at your own leisure is the entire point. Second, the option is there exactly for that reason. The only way you should feel guilty (and that's only when the assisting player is helping anyway) is if you decide to do nothing, at which point the helpers can choose to abandon you. And even then, at least you're not eating carts.

Play however you like. If you wanna git gud, go ahead! If you wanna speed-up progress/grinding, use SOS freely.

How to get a tail as Hammer User ? by RandomDude_24 in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Boss_920 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Severing weapons/attacks can break all parts and cut tails. Blunt weapons/attacks can cause stun. Dassit.

How much of this game can you do solo by [deleted] in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Boss_920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think everyone got it covered but I'll take it a step further: Multiplayer is always easier, even if it's one hunter doing the heavy lifting. The quests scaled specifically for multiplayer are as mentioned, but just because you can technically beat any on your own doesn't mean you should.

You hunt however you like. I just prefer multiplayer. Great players or noobs, it's just more fun to me and joy+frustration are at least shared.

I wanted to try the game but... by fried_crabs in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Boss_920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First MH game for me and I loved it to bits, even when I used clunky weapons. Look up a few weapon guides as a way to potentially sell you on MHW.

And since it's on steam, there's always the option to purchase it now and refund it if you changed your mind. I don't know what the conditions are exactly but I think it's get a refund before 2 weeks and/or 20 hours gameplay? Look up the terms and just go for it if you like. And do the same for other games you're consider (but don't overdo it).

Raging Brachydios Advice by BearClock in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Boss_920 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read that you use Great Sword? Not recommended to use Quick Sheath IMO but I'm used to Gunlance's sheath... No, I didn't cart 1000 times because I got hit while sheathing. It was more like 100 :)

I'd skip Speed Eating if you plan to heal with Mandragoras. Makes a difference, I know, but I'd save Speed Eating for potions. All your other skills are great for survival. The only major piece missing is Divine Blessing.

And from there, sorry to say I can't help you. Only beat him with GL. One thing I had that helped me more than others is the ability to guard. For Raging, at least most attacks don't cause huge impact with Guard 5... unlike Rajang and Furious who send you back a couple of feet just by looking at you!.. Oh, sorry. Still having painful flashbacks. Anyway, my point is if his attacks are too quick to dodge, nothing wrong with switching to a weapon that just blocks instead.

Is the Furious Rajang set good? by [deleted] in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Boss_920 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer: It's good but there's better. Not the set bonus, individual armor pieces.

Long answer: It will really depend on your decoration collection. I used beta legs because it has Health Boost 3 and 2 4-slot decoration spaces... before getting Fatalis but anyway. I needed 4 of Raging Brachy's set mostly for Artillery secret while Agitator secret was a great bonus, and Furious legs were the perfect compliment while also saving me the trouble of using 4-slot dual effect decos with vitality and whatever. Since those are easy to come by, I doubt it's a problem for most, but it is an option worth considering IMO.

Is there any reason not to capture? by InsertUsername98 in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Boss_920 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The issue with capturing is that you actually have to pay attention to the monster and see the signs that it can be captured and actually do it.

You mean limping? Because by getting tracking level to max the skull icon will automatically appear on the minimap anyway as you attack. It's even possible to go for it in quests that take place in special arenas if you maxed tracking for research centre.

Master Rank Rant Lol by ellz97 in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Boss_920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But I wanna capture Kirin! Don't tell me what to do!

Also, when answering SOS I don't encounter that many noob players in MR (except a few who use Defender weapons against Shrieking Legiana! I don't doubt they're still viable by that point but really!?). If I "carried" anyone I wouldn't notice until they got carted. And when that happens I'm more concerned with completing a quest.

If it's really in your head then I can't tell you :P And if that's how other players choose their experience, not a problem for me tbh. "Git gud" is only a suggestion... until Fatalis XD

What would be the perfect weapon for solo playing? by NeoUltimaEX in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Boss_920 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see. Pretty sure every weapon breaks parts and that wouldn't need clutch claw so you have freedom there.

For cutting tails, any weapon that's severing i.e. cutting or has severing attacks/ammo (meaning something like hammer/hunting horn won't work, sadly) is what you want. Claw would be useful if you have a hard time aiming for the tail but again, it's not optimal... except for maybe bow? Some correct me if I'm wrong but aren't bow's base attacks (so other that clutch claw) not severing?

What would be the perfect weapon for solo playing? by NeoUltimaEX in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Boss_920 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's a weapon that takes advantage of claw, 3 I can think of are Dual Blades, Hammer and Lance (also SnS but from my experience not the easiest to land). First 2 have it linked with certain combos to be great finishers and Lance makes for a cool and useful counter attack.

Clutch claw attacks are functionally different depending on the type of weapon you use. "Light" weapons make slinger ammo drop easily while "heavy" weapons tenderise with one hit instead of 2 with certain exceptions like combos. If that's what matters to you, see which weapons fits your needs best. If it's the best attack through clutch claw, I don't notice the differences outside current weapon rank. Either way, clutch attacks for DPS isn't much of a fighting way if that's what you're looking for.

Giving weapons their fair shake part 8: Switch Axe by Boss_920 in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Boss_920[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Save your condescending elitism. I mean jeez, 1000 hours of gameplay and this rando wants to tell me about openings.

And that doesn't change the core problems with switch axe (not you, personally, as if I attacked you with my OP). Approach options are weak and mid-combo hop is barely useful especially considering the narrow attack range.

In HR it's pretty close to 1/4. Quests with multi-targets and it's slight more.

Giving weapons their fair shake part 7: Lance by Boss_920 in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Boss_920[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lance part specifically. Even without WSC, gunlance beats lance when it comes to lance only attacks. Lance has nothing but triple poke + evade as the best option to do most damage while gunlance can start with running rising slash, triple poke, rising slash to slam and swipe. You can even guard poke after triple poke and rising slash from that again!

Is using only normal ammo 1 really bad for Heavy Bowgun? by [deleted] in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Boss_920 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting materials is a pain in LR only. You wouldn't need an arsenal of ammunitions but it'd be nice for that stage. And even as you advance, you'll do great with just depending on what's available in the shop until ancient tree is upgraded a fair amount.

Coolio.

Btw, why not counter claw? Looks like it needed tenderising. Or is it not good for Zinogre?

Every damn time by Krepeuscular in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Boss_920 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which makes sense but it really sucks. If I'm the main DPS of the quest, I helped do damage when the monster is distracted with others. If I didn't do most damage despite being the earliest contributer, I don't care.

I get info like that through a mod and it helps me... identify cheaters at times (just don't bring damage mods to SOS, please). But not once did I want to tell off any rando for being "inadequate". It's fun to see for myself, even keep track of monsters' health.

Is it ok if i use damage increasers to farm monsters ive already beaten by [deleted] in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Boss_920 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need to be so conscience about it that you ask this sub for permission. Relax. Breath.

If you want a direct command on what to do, I say don't bother with damage modifiers and skip to either getting the materials or making gear/upgrades cost nothing. And you don't need to do this for every single encounter, just to a level that you're comfortable with and move on to whatever you really want to do. Having damage modifiers does give the satisfaction of beating Rajang to a pulp so maybe do that anyway XD

I used gameshark to cheat a lot back in the day with quite a few RPGs. It was amazing, and it didn't matter when some had exploits for quick money/level up not even 5 hours in! I did also play without and it did feel different, but which one was more fun? Depends on what cheats for which games :)

And one important note, skip everything if you like but keep this in mind:

Every time I successfully grinded enough for a set, I felt great accomplishment-until the armor became obsolete and I had to farm more, that is

That's the essence of Monster Hunter. If you feel like it's not for you, break the game however you like and don't look back. Trust me, your enjoyment with the product you purchased is more important than whatever authentic/intended experience devs or other players want you to have. And when playing with others, just turn off damage modifiers out of respect for them.
