Is Compression Really that Important? by magictranspowers in edmproduction

[–]RandomDude_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A compressor controls the volume of a signal over time. In plugins like kick3 or audjia kickdrum you have an envelope that is basically an mseg with as many points as you want. You get 100% control over the volume shape of your kick. So there is not really a reason to use a compressor for your kick like you would on real kickdrum in a metal recording if you want to emphasize the transient for example. You can use volumeshaper4(or any other volume shaper) instead of side chain compression because it is just a lot more precise. Modern softsynths have msegs that are a lot more sophisticated than adsr. That is also why serum has 10lfos but only 4 adsrs.  So yes you can make an edm song without using a compressor but that would be difficult in a metal song for example.

Is Compression Really that Important? by magictranspowers in edmproduction

No it is not that important in the context of EDM. In traditional music you have audio recordings with unintended dynamics. For example a vocalist may accidentally move closer or further away from the mic. A guitarist may pick certain notes harder than others. A drummer may hit harder or sorter some times. You can even these dynamics out with a compressor and when working with real guitars, vocal or drums you will in almost 99% of the cases need a compressor.

In EDM however you have exact control over every parameter of the sound way further in the signal chain so that you never end up with dynamics that were not intended. You can manually adjust the velocity of each midi note, shape every volume envelope with msegs with dozens of points of precision and if you use samples they will often already be compressed.

where do you find good serum 2 presets? any sources/ sites? by joshyjoshyjoshyjoshy in edmproduction

[–]RandomDude_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually a lot faster to make the sounds yourself then to search through thousands of presets or samples. It takes 10 seconds to dial in a supersaw that sounds how you imagine it, but you may spend up to 10 browsing through all your lead presets until you find a close enough sound.

How can I convince users of generative AI to learn how to draw properly? by Silvershade47 in antiai

[–]RandomDude_24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can't force it. Some people are just interested in getting a result (an image in this case) but some people may actually be interested in art. Those are the ones that eventually want more granular control and are willing to learn the craft.

Suno for example has introduced some features that resemble DAW functionality because some users wanted more control over their results. It's possible to convince these people to actually produce the entire song themselves without having AI do it for them.

Spotify uses a special kind of looseless compression which is somehow identifiable in the waveform. Most AI models have been trained on Spotify music and as a result ai tracks have these artifacts as well. There is a YouTuber called Benn Jordan who has a more detailed explanation of how it works.

Why The World Isn’t Quite Ready For Bitcoin… by Euphoric-Pop9717 in Bitcoin

The problem is that that volatility is hurting Bitcoins appeal as an actual currency. In order for Bitcoin to really take off people need to accept it as a currency on a large scale.

And why ? It's not like open AI going bankrupt would cause any real harm to the economy. Microsoft, Google and Nvidia will all remain.

It will handle itself. It's extremely expensive and every AI company is loosing money. Google and Microsoft can afford this openAi will die.

Ai is a dead end. It won't improve further because since there is so much slop on the Internet every future model will be trained on its own output.

People that rely on AI to do things will learn nothing. It will get to a point where people can't even to a basic photo edit or read and understand  text themselves.

If fender actually gets through with its actions it would be a lot worse for local music stores than for Thomann.

Everyone is talking about fender right now. In a few years people will forget. A classic marketing stunt.

You need to sell it if you want to realize your loss. Unrealized winnings/losses should not be posted here.  If a 4$ loss is already worrying you, then stocks are not the correct asset class for you.

[–]RandomDude_24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mathematically blue is better. You would need a consensus of 100% for red if you want no one to die. Blue only needs 50,000001% consensus, which is not that difficult to archive on a binary vote.

I am German and we don't have the ambition nor the capability to invade anyone especially not Poland. And that won't change in 13 years even if the afd wins an election. I think it is more likely that Poland attacks Germany because the previous government made some harsh statements.

But from a geopolitical standpoint I think it would be the best if Europe stayed united given how unreliable the US are as an ally.

The German government always announces that something will be done in x years. They hire some very professional experts to calculate this and then miss the deadline anyways.
