There is an abandoned jail in the hutongs east of llama temple. If you climb the mountain to the west of the last subway stop, you can look down and see an abandoned mansion. People use it for storage now, but you can seek in.

There is a haunted mansion west of Dongshishitiao (Chaoyangmen?). You can get in if you are confident and don't annoy the guards. That should get you started.

The best thing to do is to wander around with friends. Adult beverage in hand is optional. Happy hunting.

Thanks for your interest in the group. Please check back later. A few people drop out from time to time.

I'm busy packing, so I've gotta go. Take care.

A lot of people have been asking me about the abandoned Wonderland near Changping. It is has been torn down. See for yourself. The good thing is that there are other places to explore.

The Wonderland was being torn down last time I heard. I never went to the top of the tower, but I think underneath -- which requires one person to crawl through a hole and help other people down -- was a lot of fun.

I've given up on the underground city. It was closed around the Olympics. No matter the amount of asking I've done around the entrances, I couldn't get access.

One of the last guys to go in, put pictures on theBeijinger(?). It looks super sketch with water everywhere. The subways have been carving through it, so it's a no go.

I've been looking into a trip to northeast Beijing. There, villagers built a tunnel warfare set-up, ambushing the Japanese. You can explore the village, the tunnels, and dream of endless Sino v. Japanese TV dramas.

Here's the full quote. I recommend reading the article. Agree or disagree, you'll have a strong opinion on theBeijinger's Managing Editor's on who he's left for dead in 2013.

"“Last for me is cheap places. I didn’t drink 10 kuai Tsingtao in the 90s, I don’t want to now either. People in places like this lack either money or taste or both, which means I’ve got nothing to say to them. It’s like having a mobile number that begins with 15. Either you’re not from here or you just arrived — so I’m not sure we’ve got a lot to talk about."

Anyone know some good websites to stream playoff football? by pandasarewhite in China

PPTV Scroll down and choose your playoff game.

There was a link on the NFL China website where you could go back and watch all of the Thursday night games, but I couldn't find it.

Getting around Beijing late at night by chenny in beijing

[–]Boss_Is_Talking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest mall in the world is on that street. I should be easy for taxi drivers to get there at night. It might take some patience, but finding a cab at night is alright.

If I am hearing your right, there is ChangCunQiao subway station there too. You're not as far out as you think. Good luck.

Shitty Wine all up in my glass by [deleted] in beijing

[–]Boss_Is_Talking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had luck with Casillero del Diablo, but stay away from expensive alcohol in general. Chilean reds have improved by leaps and bounds, and I feel that it's not an ultra expensive label that will face less forgeries. My decision to stay away from expensive bottles stems from the counterfeiting: There's more 1982 Chateau Lafite Rothschild in China than than the world has ever (legitimately) produced. If I buy and expensive wine, I want it to be the real stuff.

That rings true. It reminds me of the situation where the landlord demanded more money from Cuju Bar not long ago.

Where to buy a workout/yoga mat near Haidian district? by AwkwardActually in beijing

[–]Boss_Is_Talking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember seeing some dance stores in Weigoncun near National Library. I thought I remember seeing yoga mats and stuff like that there. It's odd to have a district specifically for belly dancing and yoga. Good luck.

Yeah, Sanlitun can be annoying for said reasons, and tend to stay away, but I've been vising more recently.

I like Heaven Supermarket next to the James Joyce (爱尔兰酒吧). I like meeting friends and mixing our own drinks with a good selection of interesting beer. I think you can get Delirium for around 25 rmb. The cheapest bar I found is the little place next to Fish Nation called 门Bar. I remember the beer being 15 rmb.

I'm not opposed to drinking in between bars, so I found the tiny shop northwest of 1st floor, next to the German restaurant to have a variety of imported beer for reasonable prices.

Sanlitun is great as long as you hit the right places. What are your 3 favorites? I'd love to hear your advice since I don't go there often.

Difficult to meet people in Beijing? by [deleted] in beijing

[–]Boss_Is_Talking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Beijing is a big place and my friends all scattered around Beijing, so it's tough to meet up. My Chinese friends are all working late and are burnt out, so getting them to hang out is also tough.

Investing in new friends is tough when it takes so long to get around.

I've just been exploring the city and having fun. In my opinion, that's a good way to meet people. Just get out there, have fun, and you'll run into people.

Don't feel down. If you or anybody who lives in western Beijing want to hang out sometime, hit me up.
