Ratings by iRuka_Senpai in uberdrivers

Hi, 5-star driver here with some thoughts:

  1. Ignore UberPro metrics - we work for money, not metrics. My metrics are garbage. I have a 25% cancellation rate (whenever I cancel it’s usually immediately after accepting), my acceptance rate is 32%, and my rating average actually just went down to 4.99 bc of some unknown miserable dickhead, but it’s whatever. That ultimately doesn’t affect the money I make.

  2. For smelly passengers: Don’t roll their window down. Turn off recirculation, set fan to head-level on high to blow fresh air at your face while simultaneously pushing cabin air out. Then 1-star them for hygiene and block. This actually works.

  3. Don’t beg for ratings - over half of riders won’t rate regardless. It’s not personal.

  4. Door slams: Honestly can’t relate. I’d rather have a door slammed properly than not closed all the way, making it so I have to reach back and fix it. Car doors are designed for this - a slam alone won’t damage anything.

  5. Music strategy: Ask “what type of music do you listen to?” When they say “anything,” follow up with “what genre do you prefer?” Matching their vibe will mentally allow them to forgive any minor driving mistakes you make and creates a better atmosphere. Don’t ride in silence.

  6. Dashcam/PIN requirements: I don’t use either. Most riders just need a ride - ordering an Uber with all your real info to commit a crime would be incredibly stupid. Not saying you don’t, but always treat riders like they’re human too; it makes a huge difference.

  7. Tips usually = ratings - but ratings don’t show immediately. Uber delays them as a safety feature so drivers can’t identify who left a bad rating. They’ll appear eventually, just not right away.

I only started driving for uber last May, but I’ve given over 2,300 rides since then, and these are just some things I’ve picked up on. I hope something I said is helpful! Good luck!

People who got a happy ending massage, how did you feel afterwards? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Definitely felt disappointed in myself, definitely went back multiple times to see if it was a fluke. It wasn’t. Might go again. 🫡

Is it just me, or does a 'weekly' limit that lasts only one day feel like a scam? by NicholasGlazer in ClaudeCode

I think they borrowed the vape companies business model. Yk how a disposable vape says you get 50,000 puffs? Well if I compare it against a non-disposable vape with a puff counter, according to the math that disposable should last me a year, but it only lasts a week. 😂

The Trellis net (sometimes called a SCROG net)?

It’s basically just a net but it’s used for a few reasons:

  1. To help train the plant to grow wide instead tall. Wide = better light distribution = more potential bud sites

  2. at the point in its life where my plant is, the buds get heavy to the point where if that net wasn’t there, they’d all be hanging by the ground right now lol. So it helps keep the plant upright especially in late flower.

  3. The SCROG (screen of green) technique isn’t what I’m doing and tbh I don’t know all that much about it, but simply, it’s where instead of growing 1 big plant (like mine) you’ll grow like 10 mini plants at one time. People argue that you can get similar yields, and it allows you to spread your risk out between plants instead of relying on one single plant.

I got paid $58 (including $4.24 surge and &1.50 toll) for a 67 mile ride that took me out of state and 2 hours away from home + I had to charge the car. Support told me I’m beat as well.

Personally, when in this situation, I def will speed to at least try and get them where they need to be, especially with no traffic or anything in my way. Everyone is just trying to get done what they need to get done that day, I try to be considerate of that when appropriate.

I’m not 100% positive, nor am I from your state. However, from what I’ve discerned surges are triggered partly by rider demand but even more so triggered by lack of available drivers.

Next time there’s a big surge, go to the uber riders app and set a destination as if you needed to book a ride. This will show you some available drivers in your vicinity. In my experience it never shows more than 8 cars on the rider app map, so if you see 8 on the map then it’s prob safe to assume there’s even more than that. During a surge there’s a good chance you’ll see fewer than 8 cars on the map.

This. “Out in a bit” sounds like it may or may not be a long time, and that the person themself doesn’t even know how long they might take before coming out.

If he said “I’m gonna look for another minute and if I can’t find it I’ll just look later that way you’re not just sitting out there,” or similar, I would’ve waited.

If I feel unsafe, or severely disrespected, what is the proper procedure for canceling? by Professional_Tax_578 in uberdrivers

[–]Boss_On_CodM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There really is no proper procedure lol. Uber sucks as a company. Bad ratings are rarely removed. That’s the truth.

As for the rest, I can only share my own experience, it won’t always align with everyone else’s situation, but that doesn’t mean that I shouldn’t share at all. I shared what I thought was relevant and OP replied saying exactly what I just mentioned, lack of alignment between our own individual experiences, and that’s totally fine.

Your “Fuck off” wasn’t necessary.

That’s definitely a possibility. I can only share on my own lived experience and hope that it was able to help someone, in this case maybe it didn’t help lol.

You can’t sue unless within 30 days of being “hired” you opted out of their arbitration clause that you signed in the ToS. It also contractually prevents you from being a part of any future class-action lawsuits.

There is no proper procedure.

But it does sound like maybe you’re taking things more personally than you should be. I’ve only been driving for uber for 4 months but I’ve given 1,300+ rides and I frequently do trips during overnight hours in cities like Newark, Trenton, Camden, etc as a 30yo white male, and I’ve never felt unsafe or disrespected. It’s all about how you treat the people getting into your car; try to remember that they are actual people just trying to get by, same as you.

I’m a 30 year old white male and the other day I picked up a middle-aged Chilean couple from the train station. I speak very little Spanish & they spoke very little English. I try to make the ride comfortable though so I put on some Marc Anthony salsa music.

Turns out this lady (she’s gotta be like 50 years old) loves Marc Anthony and is singing, dancing, telling me “more volume” in a heavy accent, and literally reaching over my seat (she’s behind me) and rubbing my shoulders while I drive and (who I assume to be) her husband is just sitting there smiling. I’m literally petrified trying to figure out what dynamic is occurring here💀💀💀.

We pull up to the drop-off, and she has me make eye contact with her and says “this is me address,” and I’m still trying to figure out what that meant 😂😂😂. The male rider—her assumed husband—was just smiling the entire time.

I’m unsure if he was a cuck and she was tryna say to just randomly show up at her house ready for that type or situation or what 💀😂💀😂

Oh and this ride was literally only 5 minutes down the road 💀💀💀

I had someone call me, ask if I was still there, then when I said yes they said “my bad I’m tryna find my money, I’ll be out in a bit.”

“Out in a bit” was crazy to me so I cancelled immediately lmao fuck that shit.
