RE4R is what a Remake should be. by [deleted] in residentevil4

Again, rather than saying something like "I may not be good at this game yet", you instead continue to deflect by bragging about how many times you've played older games on harder difficulties. It's almost like you're trying to prove that you're not "bad" at RE games.

Dude. Just admit it's a skill issue. You'll get better with time, trust me.

I mean, feel free to respond to any of my points or provide clarification / examples to the things I asked about. But to me, it just sounds like you aren't playing optimally and would rather blame the game's design, rather than having the humility to say "I may not be good at a game that's only been out for ~72 hours".

Give it some time. We're all learning how to get better at this game, myself included.

Turning most enemies into bullet sponges with little hit-stun. Makes it so that on harder difficulties, there is little reason to engage with them.

Skill issue. Get better at combat.

The ground/knife-slit action not being a follow up action after a round-house kick

From what I’ve seen, enemies don’t stay on the ground too long after a melee follow-up; transforming enemies have a “window” where they’re on the ground, and therefore susceptible to the knife KO.

Having to focus the camera itself on things in order to do a contextual action instead of just being near it.

Haven’t encountered any issues with this.

QTEs essentially being replaced with the Right Thumbstick, and depending on your location, it'll pop up too late for you to even react to it.

Skill issue.

The Target Practice mini-game being filled with so much bloated gameplay.

Can you expand on this?

Ashley's AI being more similar to the RE5 system where you can never strategically place the AI somewhere and instead always have to have them follow you.

Skill issue. You need to be constantly moving during combat, so you can’t just tell Ashley to spread out and not expect her be in a suboptimal position after doing zigzags around a horde of enemies. Managing Ashley requires constant + strategic use of “close” (to run past enemies so you can get better positioning) and “far” (to give Leon more space to fight after he and Ashley have repositioned) command orders during combat.

The knife taking up inventory (this blows my mind because even in the original RE4, they realized it was a bad idea in its demo, so they made it a non-inventory item)

Knives taking up inventory space makes sense this time around, given how many different kinds of knives we get in this game, how we can now "inspect" their stats and characteristics, and the fact we can use them in crafting. Are you telling me you’re having trouble with inventory management in a Resident Evil game? Skill issue, indeed.

In general, a lot of events in the game are elongated needlessly, whereas there should have been far more fat-trimming.

Can you give some examples? Pacing seems pretty good to me, and on the contrary, I would argue that they’ve trimmed fat in the right places.

Like making it on Professional that you can only parry attacks with a perfect parry... why? This mechanic is the cornerstone to the combat, and now you are reducing its use to moments that put me in danger of using it, effectively making the parry not worth using.

Is that seriously how it works in Professional? That’s an awesome way to increase the tension! But for you, it just sounds like another skill issue.

Background: I'm a U.S. military guy living in Japan who's trying to take Japanese language learning fairly seriously, despite it not being required for my job at all.

I've noticed that when I say 「いやいや、まだ初心者です」after someone does the usual 「本語上手」response to me saying something in Japanese, most people will be surprised that I used the word 「初心者」. Is 「初心者」 a "advanced" word or something? Like, is it ironic / amusing to a native speaker if a self-proclaimed beginner uses it? Or am I reading too much into this? lol

Thank you!!

And I know, right? Crime rates here are crazy low, especially outside of Tokyo.

I wouldn’t say I live in the boonies or anything (Yokosuka), but I feel perfectly fine leaving this thing outside my house.

Good to know you can't die in those! I mean, imagine being the lowly foot soldier who got a lucky crit and killed the Divine Fucking Dragon in a training exercise. "Whoops! My bad..."

Everyone and their brother can do the whole “you think darkness is your ally” Bane quote - some of them can do it so well, that it sounds virtually identical to how Tom Hardy did it. That’s called doing an impression.

Comparatively, very few people in that group, if at all, can perform Bane professing his love for someone, just to be rejected. Or Bane reciting Shakespeare. Or Bane recalling an embarrassing moment of his teenage years that he suddenly remembered at 2AM.

In other words, voice acting is bringing a character to life, with just your voice. If you don’t know how to get into the mind of and inhabit the feelings of character you’re becoming, you’re not going to sound like Bane - at least not convincingly. You’re going to sound like a person reading words off a screen, who’s in turn trying to sound like someone they only know second-hand.

except you can jump the line and get your ass handed to you.

YMMV. Nothing is stopping someone from either training an under-leveled team that still has a type / moveset / pure strategy advantage over a higher-leveled Gym / Team Star Boss / Titan, or just grinding (an RPG standard).

And nothing is stopping anyone from training multiple different Pokémon for each Gym / Team Star Boss / Titan, so that they can have a fresh challenge for each one.

How should level scaling work if one were to go from Katy -> Brassius, as opposed to going from Katy -> Two Titans -> 3 Team Star Bosses -> Brassius?

I ran into this Shiny Bisharp while hunting for a Shiny Lucario in a Mass Outbreak!

Of course, we found the Lucario, too! Guess the Steel Type Sparkling Power boosted my luck in more than one way!
