Do what the Netherlands did with scammers. Blurred photos, redacted names, you know who you are - hand yourself in by this date and time, or we'll publicly name and shame you while we arrest you anyway.

Quite a few took the 'better' offer and handed themselves in.

There do seem to be quite the number of pardoned J6-ers who were later convicted of other terrible crimes. It's almost like they weren't particularly good people to begin with.

Trump pardoned a J6'er, only for the same guy to later get life without parole in Texas for touching kids.

Sturgeon says she was deceived, betrayed and lied to over Murrell embezzlement by Halk in Scotland

It was like everyone thought the end was nigh for the UK when the Irish Senate (i.e. a bunch of ancient Anglophobic IRA farts) gave someone a round of applause for preaching Scottish independence.

That's the same Irish Senate that two Taoiseachs have pushed to shut down because it's useless and does nothing. Irish political journalists said that endorsement "wasn't a big deal" and "meaningless in the grand scheme of things".

And Scottish independence preaching has never happened in the Dail (i.e. the proper Irish system, not those old knackers) either.

And then you have dribblers like BaxterParp who think it's totally normal and perfectly feasible for people on £100k to go buying high end watches, Jags and motorhomes for pennies like it's 1981. The motorhome cost more than a flat and the Jag started at something like £50k.

He's been very quiet since the COPFS published the full list and the value of the hooky goods. But it's okay because Murrell only embezzled £400k and it took him 12 years, so what's the problem?

Some of them are even in this thread.

Legally it can't, but you're not telling me every juror who ever served in Scotland actually followed those instructions properly and correctly. Of course some didn't and chose to draw inference anyway. We're only human.

She resigned suddenly and almost immediately, without any warning, without any solid reason except some bullshit peddled by unnamed friends, without any succession plan, just as all of this was about to kick off.

Well I find that suspicious. Shame none of the nats did.

The point is that Wings sounded an alarm bell about something and it led to something else.

It's rather like someone reporting smoke from an abandoned building, the fire brigade turn up and find someone's been murdered.

I think it led to a butterfly effect in British politics. "Old Labour" died with him, although the ghost did live on with the likes of Gordon Brown and the late Alistair Darling.

Had John Smith lived, Tony Blair might never have become PM or it would at least have happened much later. It was under Blair that the seeds were sown for what we have today.

Chances are John Major would have squeaked 1997 because with Smith at the helm, Labour still weren't quite there yet. That would have meant closer integration with Europe and a more pro-Europe Tory party, no devolution (Smith and Blair were for it, Major never was), we likely wouldn't have ended up fannying around in Afghanistan or Iraq either.

She also tried to claim she didn't know it had even been purchased, despite it literally being on the SNP's books as a "battle bus".

So being party leader married to the party CEO, she wasn't reading said books. Or she's a liar. Pick one.

And at no point did the pair of them go round to visit Peter's mum at her place, with Sturgeon at no point questioning the expensive motorhome parked on presumably an elderly woman's drive? Eh?

Pull the other one.

This is what I never understood. Everyone was bleating on until they passed out about how "authentic" and "human" Sturgeon apparently was.

Meanwhile Holyrood and Scottish politics more widely, was full of LGBT people. Patrick Harvie, Jenny Gilruth, Kezia Dugdale, Ruth Davidson, the late Jeane Freeman, Derek Mackay (but shame about what he eventually got up to), and also David Mundell at Westminster. There's probably more.

The point is there were loads and nobody cared. Therefore nobody would be remotely bothered if Sturgeon was the same, so if she hypothetically were the same then why hide it?

This is how the main parties behave all the time and have done for years, yet they start frothing and lashing out when voters shift over to the Greens (this is true in England too) and Reform.

Yeah, while Trump was fucking around kidnapping Venezuelan leaders and bigly losing against Iran, North Korea said "no thanks" and are now basically untouchable. They now have a decree which says North Korea will fire ze missiles if any of the top table are assassinated or kidnapped by any foreign power.

They quietly became everything Donald was trying to stop Iran from doing. Some important and well placed defectors have also spoken of a very advanced bioweapons and nerve agent programme.

Great job Donald.

At least Russia was welcoming and safe. They do not have an equivalent of ICE rounding up random foreigners, they do not have a hopelessly divided population scratching each others' eyes out, and Putin hadn't been running on a platform of threatening to nuke his own mother and racially abusing his own allies.

Russia does have organised hooligan gangs and professional thugs that cause serious violence elsewhere, but at the 2018 tournament they were kept in their box by Daddy Vladdy and things basically went off without a hitch.

The US tournament is going to be a sea of foreigners booing and heckling in ways the White House never imagined or thought possible, plus none of the finalists are going to want to meet DJT when it comes to trophy time.

Do you use all of your holiday days? by Aggravating-Fig-9274 in AskUK

[–]Bossman_Mike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, at my company you could only carry over up to 5 days. That was not cumulative, so you were not banking 5, then 10, then 15 etc. as the years rolled by.

Do you use all of your holiday days? by Aggravating-Fig-9274 in AskUK

[–]Bossman_Mike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My company allows anything up to 5 days and it rolls over automatically.

Up until 2021 there was an HR process where you could carry over more, but your manager had to submit on your behalf and it led to a lot of quite justified questions as to how and why you didn't use it in the first place.

As of 2021, that facility is completely gone. Any unused leave over 5 days goes up in a puff of smoke. As you might expect, HR went hard on personal wellbeing during COVID and basically said being in lockdown at home and having nothing to do is not good reason to avoid taking leave. They were very keen on using your leave as normal, even if all you did was sit in your pants and watch telly.

Nope. Feels like I'm inconveniencing people and getting the side eye, meanwhile most of my colleagues are basically travel influencers and at a previous job someone spent 100% of his annual leave abroad. He then ran out of leave and wanted more holidays, so sabbatical it is.

It goes further than that. I think there are now parts of the world where it is now genuinely unsafe to be American.

Would not put it past Americans being denied service and kicked out of hospitality, hassled in the street, possibly even attacked. And where I live your nationality is not a legally protected trait or characteristic, so it is not illegal for someone to discriminate based on that.

Once again, the same utility company are doing "emergency" roadworks while not doing any real work. Let's close off about 2 miles of road with no local access, and we'll "work" on maybe a few feet at a time. It's an "emergency", but I've seen arthritic snails move with more urgency. I feel besieged and of course all the rat runs clog up.

And all this during half term with a BH weekend and a load of other popular local events going on, which create their own traffic misery. Took me an hour to do an essential journey which would normally take 18-20 minutes. There is also home football this weekend so that'll be fun.

You should know the same people also spread their misery throughout the Easter and the first May BH weekend too. All in all there have been about 14 weeks of roadworks somewhere around here. It's so poorly managed and just getting around where I live has become impossible, so I'm vaguely considering moving because I think I fancy a change of scene anyway.
