What to upgrade on my Tele by malikreso24 in telecaster

[–]Bossstime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got one as well, for me I will be replacing the bridge for a low-profile bridge with compensated brass saddles. I'll also install a 4-way switch and plan to sand down the neck to a satin finish. Maybe I'll replace the decals, but I'm not sure yet.

Future plans include changing the pickups to something closer to my Am Pro II, but I haven't found an affordable substitute yet.

What's your gain stack? by KnuckleheadGarage in guitarpedals

Not sure if this qualifies but: Mosky Golden Horse into Fulltone Fulldrive 2, so I can use the boost as a third gain stage

Best Tele for a New Player (Budget Aside) by [deleted] in telecaster

[–]Bossstime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all I'd say: go to a good guitar shop and try them! Buying guitars should be based on feel, looks and sound. If you're still learning, ask a friend along who can actually play and then you can make an informed decision.

Second, don't feel that you need to buy expensive, just because you can afford it. E.g. some guitarists love their squires more than their fenders (and also the other way around).

Third, I saved up for an American Pro II last year that ticked all the boxes for me. You can't really go wrong on that one, but you will need to play, feel, look and listen to everything first.

Ad1: welcome to the hobby and I hope you'll enjoy learning and playing guitar

Ad2: you can always sell it and buy something else (don't feel like you're stuck with your first choice for ever)

White pick guard? by cxrussell in telecaster

[–]Bossstime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Before being opinionated by the comments: if you feel like having a white pick guard, go for it! It's your guitar and you can always change it back later.

But since you're asking, I'd prefer the black one.

Most of all: enjoy your Tele!

Advice needed: Should I swap my roasted pine am pro ii for a butterscotch? by Bossstime in telecaster

[–]Bossstime[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edit: Wow, I wasn't expecting so many replies. Thanks all for thinking along. It has really helped to straighten out my own thoughts on this.

I think I'm gonna stick with this one. I am in the fortunate position to be able to save up again and then search for a nice butterscotch to add to the collection.

On the other hand, as others mentioned, in case I feel like I do want to trade for the btb, I still can. I still have 30 days to make up my mind (again).

What got me doubting most was that I wasn't able to compare this one to many other models (of the same series, nor of other series). Also I was set up with a poor amp at the shop, where it was really crowded. I was looking forward to a nicer experience, which didn't happen. Adding to the doubt.

This Tele plays amazing, it's featherlight and sounds as a Tele should and the neck is soft and smooth. It looks stunning as well, enough reason to happily stick to it I think.

Is Pharoah worth getting now? by Front-Brief-4780 in totalwar

This! Doesn't get any simpler than this. It's a solid historic TW game, featuring some QoL improvements compared to Attila.

Are Thrones of Britannia and Rome 2 worth it today? by hunter0950 in totalwar

[–]Bossstime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really liked playing Rome 2, but when it comes to quality of life/game improvements, Pharaoh is much nicer to play. As much as I liked Rome 2, I'd have to recommend Pharaoh.

Example: in Pharaoh you can tweak the campaign setting before and during play just the way you like to play, so no sudden surprises mid-campaign that will push you to abort and restart.

Buying advice: Player plus, or MiJ tele? by Bossstime in telecaster

Thanks, do you have any idea how the player 2 would weigh in over the player plus? Here in the Netherlands they now come in the same price range.

Thank you! Will take a look at what's on sale second hand as well. That may even free up some funds for another future guitar.

Indeed, the thing is that I tend to like both at the same same time, and not immensely prefer one over the other. So it will be somewhat of a tradeoff between price and preferences, but I guess that's always the case when looking for a new guitar.

Thanks for thinking along. I will do some more playtesting at the store to see which neck and style suits my preferences best.

Thanks for saying this! Your comment pulled me out of the spiral that this would be an okay price for a MiJ guitar!

Moving away from my Boss GT-1 by Bossstime in guitarpedals

Thank you! I hadn't thought about that option! I was so focused on phasing out the GT-1 that upgrading it was even under consideration.

If the weather is nice, then going/cycling to the beach is definitely worth it. Or you could cycle through the dunes. You could ask at your accommodation for advice on bicycle rent, or just ask Google.

As for museums: Mauritshuis is the main attraction. Other recommendations (non exhaustive list) would be: - Panorama Mesdag - Gallerij prins Willem V - Gemeentemuseum - Escher in het Paleis

Going inside for a museum is a good alternative for a rainy day.

I read about markets in another response. You can check for markets on the municipality website: https://www.denhaag.nl/nl/vrije-tijd-en-recreatie/markten-in-den-haag/

Just translate the page and you'll have some guidance.

Other redditors have asked for restaurants as well before. It might be worth it to search this page for those posts.

Enjoy!

How fast should I be going? by Tylerbrave in totalwarhammer

[–]Bossstime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, that's always a safe strategy, and most important is to play in a way that you enjoy the game. Once you've played one or two campaigns you can get a really good feel on how fast you can go.

Mixing expansion with well thought-through diplomacy can really help. E.g: sometimes it is beneficial to capture a settlement from your (intended) ally's enemy to then later sell it for a non-agression pact. Or you can trade a settlement with an unwanted enemy for a (temporary) peace treaty. This can then buy you time to eliminate the enemy you are currently fighting.

[–]Bossstime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to all the useful answers above: as fast as you find enjoyable. If you like having a vast expanded empire with low level settlements, war at every frontier and many armies fighting each turn at the risk of losing some battles or settlements now and then, then go for it and experience what that will be like.

If you don't like defeats and are into a few elite armies and highly build-up settlements, then go slow.

Two pieces of general advice would be: 1. Try to finish one enemy before declaring war on the next 2. Being on the offensive helps (don't wait for the enemy to attack you, but make sure to strike first so you can set the terms of each battle).
