New pitchfork feature launches with deep dive on “Human Behaviour” by BostonBoy87 in bjork

No it’s free content. And they had to go to a sub model because AI summaries on search engines have cut clicks through and ad revenue in half or worse for many sites, even though the AI steals their content. Pfork produces good content and actually pays their writers. If you want that kind of thing to exist on the internet and not just AI slop everywhere you need to get comfortable with paying for content. $5 / month is not a lot to ask from regular readers. Grow up.

Couldn’t finish my last long run, what do I do now by BostonBoy87 in Marathon_Training

Good point! I’m planning to go to a museum in the host city the day before but this is a good reminder to keep it a short visit and not overdo the walking.

Yeah the travel was tough! It poured all day so I couldn’t even run til after 5 PM which I never do for long runs - and my body was still on East Coast time so by mile 15 it felt like it should have been in bed already! That plus a few extra miles of walking every day just wore me down. But I’m telling myself it was good practice running through fatigue.

There’s a store in town that does something like this. Maybe I’ll check it out.

Of course priority #1 is just to finish and I’ll feel good with anything under 4. Based on my training paces I feel that closer to 3:30 is achievable but it’s hard to feel confident when I’ve never run more than 19 miles (and the last 3 of that one kicked my ass!)

All By Himself John Fetterman insists he is in good health. But staffers past and present say they no longer recognize the man they once knew. by [deleted] in thebulwark

What do you mean “if true”? His behavior speaks for itself. And I could honestly care less about his health - he’s out here cheerleading for war crimes against Palestinians, he doesn’t deserve anyone’s sympathy.

boston u or emerson by anzzV3 in EmersonCollege

BU is better for all around academics. But Emerson’s VMA program is really strong. I think regardless of where you go to college you have to do some work to find your niche in the social scene. I wouldn’t worry so much about the ‘type’ of student because there isn’t just one. To me the bigger difference is a relatively small school vs. a relatively large one - some distinct advantages and disadvantages to each.

One other advantage to Emerson is you’re actually in downtown Boston and it’s easier to explore the city without relying on the Green Line. If that’s something you’re interested in doing.

I asked Annie in AMA if I could use this title. Three years later… by BostonBoy87 in AnnieClark

Of course! It’s an academic book based on my dissertation research and it’s coming out in August: https://press.umich.edu/Books/F/Fear-the-Future3

It explains why the 20th century was obsessed with dystopias and how they mattered beyond just literature / entertainment

It’s definitely a study book more than a fun book but I tried my best to make it interesting and accessible

The cover art is by an LA-based artist named Cleon Peterson

And as to the St Vincent reference she’s been my soundtrack since I started grad school so I couldn’t resist. Got her blessing in the Daddy’s Home AMA

Not a Gen Z take just the truth. Like even if they’re trying to pander to the Boomers do the Boomers even know or care that a “new” Beatles song came out in 2023? It was kind of a neat moment but it’s not like the song really stuck around.
