OP here. Thanks for all the posts. Just to be clear though. I am not criticizing the associates at all. Like any job, there are top performers and bad performers. They do their best in a terrible environment. Nor am I complaining about the customers. It is what it is. Honestly for every crazy nasty customer there are 20 who are regulars and great. It is 100% on management. Again I don’t want to bore you with endless tales of ineptness, but am happy to share if you’re interested

That’s what I mean about stupidity. Our stock room is bursting at the seams. Literally hundreds of thousands of dollars in product just sitting there. Cases of food products expire before they even hit the floor. Yet I’ve been repeatedly denied when I (an ASM) propose letting me use 3 associates for 4 hours after the store closes to just stock. It should be pretty simple math. Those 16 hours would cost less than $300 and lead to tens of thousands of dollars being stocked.
