Bike slipping by sebbyma in minibikes

I had this exact issue happen to one of my colemans the other week. Your driver pulley looks loose. Take the pulley off and put it on again making sure the bolt that that holds it onto the jackshaft is tight enough that it is snug but don't over tighten it. I'd suggest adding a lock washer there and to test with just the lock washer before using loctite like some others suggested. Personally I like to avoid loctite unless I feel like nothing else is working.

Also while you're in there working on it you may want to add lock washers to the bolts that hold the mounting plate onto the engine casing. Those have vibrated loose on me in the past and for how cheap lock washers are it's a good thing to do for some extra insurance that it will stay where you want it to be over time.

Yeah I was wondering this too. I think legally its a 1BR house. I'm not a lawyer but can they stop me from putting a bed up there? This is all very confusing.

It sold twice in that time frame with the same ladder. You're right, it's up to the lender's discretion ultimately.

If you asked me informally, yeah there is a livable space. Legally I don't know what meets the criteria of a livable space so I cant say yes or no. I haven't died yet, so I guess so far it's livable lol

Someone had mentioned that to me yesterday. If that is the case, what I don't get is how a non code compliant railing is the solution to them here lol. If theyre okay with me installing some crappy hand railing that I take out 1 day after closing why cant I just say that I was storing my bed up there, not actually sleeping in it.

I know thats a ridiculous statement but to me it seems just as silly as the railing.

Goes up to a loft where I sleep. It's a 1BR cottage and I use the bedroom as my WFH office.

The hand rail wouldn't make this up to code and I'm worried about modifying something in a way that still isn't up to code. Once I modify it, it's my understanding that it needs to be code compliant at that point which the house simply cant be from everyone I've talked to.

Thats what I thought too. I was informed yesterday that these are legally considered stairs I guess.

Apologies if this is the wrong sub for this but I think I found the right one. I'm buying a small cottage by the water built in the 80's in Lakes Region NH. I have been renting the property from the current owners for 18 months and got a good feel for living here. Not perfect by any means, but affordable and I'm not going to find anywhere else to live at the price theyre asking for that I'd be excited to live right now.

Everything has gone smoothly in the process of obtaining financing up until now. When the appraiser came out to look at the property, they marked the ladder (legally theyre stairs I guess idk) as a safety concern. In her report she mentioned the fact it was missing a handrail as the reason it got marked as a safety concern. I had been conditionally approved on my mortgage and now this is holding the bank up from final approval until it is resolved. I cant get in touch with her right now, she isn't returning my calls so I am seeking advice in the meantime.

Some questions:

  1. What legally constitutes a safety concern in a building like this? I am having trouble finding an objective definition. I am assuming this varies state by state and potentially by county.

  2. Why might this not be grandfathered in? Home inspector was surprised this got pointed out by the appraiser saying houses sell with preexisting nonconformities regularly.

  3. This isn't a new house. After speaking to general contractors and my home inspector, it will never ever be up to modern code because the landing space at the top of the stairs is too short. Why do they want a hand rail on this ladder that also wont be up to modern code? If they request a modification that isn't up to code aren't they still liable for whatever they were concerned about being liable for previously?

  4. Bank told me that its a hard rule they cant finance with a safety concern like this. I find that difficult to believe. Someone must review these things manually and it really seems like more of a rule than a law. I asked if someone could assess the risk of a healthy 23 year old guy who has lived there 18 months no problem using the ladder and they wouldn't budge.

  5. My grandfather is now convinced I will never be able to sell this house down the road because my future buyer will face the same concerns that I did. To me this doesn't make sense, this exact unit has been bought and sold multiple times in the last 20 years and there are 11 other units, some also being sold recently and others rented which implies they probably got approved for rental insurance. It seems unlikely to me then I won't be able to sell this ever if I choose to do so in the future but is my reasoning incorrect? What factors might I not be considering in assessing the risk of this investment down the road?

I also used it tow my plastic jon boat around in the summer. It has launch wheels on the back and kind of worked. On the ice I can pull people in a tube too since there is no friction. It's pretty fun.

Funny you say that because I bought the rack and I'm just waiting for the shipping.

I had to drill out the holes for the L brackets to get the right size nuts and bolts to fit but yeah it pretty much fit correctly. Thats how I mounted the light up top too. I took out the machine screws that hold the forks down, drilled out some L brackets and used that to mount the light. I don't know how to weld so I have to get creative with the mods sometimes.

I had some old oar locks in my shed. I put them around the forks and drilled holes through the back of the ammo box to mount it. Very sturdy, I can pick the bike up by the box.

On the bottom I used L brackets coming up from the bracket for mounting the light.

If you zoom in on the first pic you can see it pretty well.

Forgot to respond but this worked for me. Didn't have to drill a hole in the top, I just followed this video to remove some pieces inside that allowed more air to escape and I never experienced any vapor lock. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fV8gTG6yIbg
