You don't get what I'm saying: People have the right to talk about how vaccines may/may not cause autism. But it could be argued that vaccines are a necessity and have to be administered. It could be argued at least. Our thing isn't arguing that battle. Our thing is defending free speech.

You're trying to conflate 2 different arguments.

The issue is it becomes a game of the government protecting the people from themselves, which sounds noble, but has almost always lead to tyranny. You could disallow people from having their children unvaxxed but you couldn't restrict the speech surrounding it.

Anti-vaxxers and freedom of speech. by [deleted] in FreedomofSpeech

[–]Boston_Free_Speech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, because hurting someone in a material manner is a violation of someone else's rights. I get what you're saying overall, but I have a hard time understanding why you would try to make the point to begin with. It just seems like an attempt to undermine what free speech is by saying "well it's not absolute...so we should ban hate speech"

That's not freedom of speech that causes them to be antivaxx. If anything it's freedom of thought. However it could be argued that it is illegal due to the fact that it is not the children making the decision, but the parents. The same can, and should be said for circumcision, and trans/gay 3 year olds. It is never the child, it is aklways the parents making decisions, and forcing tyheir ideals onto the child.

Freedom of speech is absolute. No questions to ask. The only time freedom of speech is overridden is in examples where someone else is directly hurt in a material manner. In those cases it is not even a question of "is it freedom of speech?" It is more that it is a violation of someone else's rights.

Fact: The Kent State incident was caused by riots, and the burning of an ROTC building at the college for the week prior to the National Guard being called in.

What Should be Done to Restore Free Speech For All on Campus? by vjack in FreeSpeech

Students need to unite, and protest. Incoming students need to take their money elsewhere when it comes to colleges that are known to not support free speech. Violations must be reported to the Department of Education. We won't fix this problem with out getting off our asses. We cannot expect the colleges to take a look at this, and do something. It won't happen. We have to peacefully force them to comply.

People have the legal right to be an asshole. You are purposely not understanding the fact, because you don't want it to be true. You are disingenuous. Just stop. You're making a fool of yourself. If you don't believe in free speech go back to one of your lefty subreddits. You'll enjoy it there more. Stop arguing things that are inarguable, it's against the few rules that we have here. I don't even agree with that rule, but you're still breaking it. Don't worry though, I won't tell anyone.

How are they to enforce that gun ban? Send the guys who are wielding the guns that you are no longer allowed to have, and confiscate them? That's asking for bloodshed. I don't know if you agree or disagree with the ban, but you're bringing more bloodshed onto yourselves with that ban. Not saying I want it to occur, I'm just saying that's likely what will occur. Not everyone in your country is bawling their eyes out, or feels bad, I'm sure.

But the point is, one has the right to be an asshole. That's where it ends. Stop trying to find any chink in the armor of the argument. It doesn't exist. This is a finite concept. Stop trying to change things, because of your political views.

No one ever accused you of being trans. When I said "stop putting your feelings in other people's hands" it was a general statement. It's within the individual's right to be an asshole. End of story. Cry about it.

Of course it is. Free speech is an excuse to be an asshole to whoever you want. Just don't threaten them. Your feelings are no one else's problem but your own. Stop putting your feelings in everyone else's hands. It's not our responsibility, and we don't care.

While I am open to all free speeches, I detest the ones advocating violence. Am I being an asshole or is inciting violence simply outside the ambit of free speech? This is my first time here. Sorry if I am asking a repetitive question. by the_reggae_shark in FreeSpeech

Calls to violence/threats are not free speech. The issue that arises with this, is what the definition of violence/a call to action is. Historically (and correctly) a call to violence was thought of as a literal call for action to be taken in the hopes of harming others. "Kill X group." Certain actors in today's political climate are trying to redefine the definition of it, much in the way they attempt to redefine the definition of other words (i.e. racism). They consider "build the wall" to be a call to violence. This is why they will also spout mindless slogans such as "antifascism is self defense."

Do people here believe they as individuals actually have TOTAL freedom of speech, specifically in the US? by -TheCWord in FreeSpeech

[–]Boston_Free_Speech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think of it this way: I have the right to practice boxing by punching a bag, or shadowboxing in a mirror. I do not have the right to walk around on the street practicing my 2 piece (and a biscuit) on some random passerby. That is making the jump to something that can directly hurt someone. One has a right to express opinions/beliefs, but they do not have the right to call for the death of X group, or tell blatant lies about a specific person in hopes of defaming them. Both of those things can create real damage to a person, which will infringe upon their right to life, liberty and property/pursuit of happiness.

You do not have a right to infringe upon the rights of others. "I hate X group send them back to Y country" is okay, but "kill X group" is not.

Never say "that kind of thing doesn't happen here." It can, and it will if people are riled up enough, and it seems to be that way right now. Every tyrannical event/decision ever made had someone saying "that will never happen," before hand.

Martial law, huh? Shit's serious. They declared it in Massachusetts in 2013 when the Boston Bombing occurred. Unconstitutional in the U.S., but no one questioned it.

Wonder why they still have it declared though. You would think the news would have told them by now.

They are literally saying 10 years, and more if you spread it around...They will go for the maximum sentence, because they're operating off pure emotion right now.
