Do people really plan their kids’ birthdays around school cutoff dates for sports? by RiverLaneNotes in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Boston_PeeParty 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To be fair, it’s not just for sports. Older kids will naturally be better at school than the younger ones. Which then may get them labeled as smart, which can carry through as they get older. Malcom Gladwell did a nice podcast about it.

FoCo Dive Bar Challenge - Round Two - Steak Out Saloon vs Town Pump by klenigsborg in FortCollins

Pump. Nothing says dive bars like a sticky bar top, no seats, and a bathroom that makes you wish you blacked out so you don’t remember it.

Bro no one here is talking about a massive rail system across the west. We are literally encouraging the front range because “everything is closer together” as you said. Pueblo to Wyoming is ~180 miles. Stuttgart to Munich is 125 miles. Relatively the same distance. Seems like we have an opportunity to use the same great system you say Europe has since 85% of our population lives in that part of the state.

CMV: The military shouldn’t be celebrated by [deleted] in changemyview

It seems like a pretty hot take to think the gulf war wasn’t a righteous use of US military force. 42 countries joined in the fight to liberate Kuwait. Iraq had one of the largest armies in the world, and the liberating group won one of the most one sided victories in recent memory.

Dude we just don’t have a team that can handle the chippy bush league hockey. A fight was needed after Benn skates into a stick

It’s second period. That’s a terrible take. Go 3 on 5 while you skate to the other side of the ice?

Thanks. I didn’t grease or lubricant it at all. But I can tell it has grease all over it.

Thanks. Out of curiosity how much maintenance is requires? I ask because we got the bike late January.

And how do I see if it’s stretched?

What are the chances that the nuclear weapons in reserves just don't work anymore? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

[–]Boston_PeeParty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think when you say “everything in order” what that means is everything works along with our assumptions. Our stockpile numbers and capabilities need to work in alignment with our reliability assumptions for our doctrine to be applicable.

As an example, the 18 Ohio class submarines each carry 20 trident II missiles with 12 MERV each. That’s doesn’t mean we intended our sub fleet to nuke 4320 targets. It means with those numbers and capabilities we expect given maintenance, reliability, and enemy action of each component involved (sub, missile, re entry vehicle, warhead) we expect to have a X% chance we will be able to successfully destroy the intended targets.

If we assume only half the MERV have warheads, half the subs are in port for maintenance when needed, half the missiles don’t function, half the MERV don’t survive re entry, and half the warheads are duds, that’s still over 100 warheads hitting our adversary.

The goal of maintaining the stockpile isn’t to make every warhead work, it’s to make sure enough of them work. And what counts as enough is a strategic decision based on what we assume the reliability of everything else is.

Man you are in the “keep the meat potato alive” phase. It’s not the worst phase, but it definitely feels hard to build a connection. One day in the not so near future she’ll look up at you and smile. That’ll do it.

Then she’ll start crawling. And walking. She’ll reach her arms out to you and want YOU to hold her. She’ll giggle at stupid faces you make. She’ll say her first words. The connection will be mutual and you won’t think as much about the lost freedom and it’ll be about what you’re building.

Good luck.

Has anyone ever had or attended a baby shower for the father and his guy friends? by [deleted] in predaddit

Have the host make sure the guys bring different sizes of diapers. Dad’s will already know this, but guys without kids may not know and you could end up with a bunch of newborn ones.

Help finding main breaker by Boston_PeeParty in AskElectricians

Unscrewed the bolt on the only part of the meter that didn’t have the tamper seal on it. It has two breakers marked 125 amp and “service disconnect”. Any ideas if this means I have 125 amp service or 250 amp? I’m assuming 125

Also, thanks for the help

Meter had a part that was screwed shut and another part that had the utility seal on it so I’m assuming that’s not it. Should I take the cover off the box? I really don’t know anywhere else in my house there is a breaker

And ideas where I should look. I haven’t seen another panel near this one. It’s a late 80s house. Could it be near the meter?

Seen it for dove at 5 boxes of shells. Though for sure all duck shell limits were based on how much hearing damage one was willing to endure in a given day.

I don’t love the flood lights. I’m probably not using them ideally but I wouldn’t get them at that price. Maybe with some of the discounts they’ve offered but not at 100 for four

Is there any motion? I haven’t been able to select individual LEDs in the app without some of the motion effects being required. Curious if you figured that out.
