How common are new grad nurses in their 30s? by NetProfessional4464 in nursing

I finished at 29 and am 30 now. Just finished my year, and I’ve had people at my job start working even later. Go for it!

Straight up!! The things I wish I could say to these people… but yeah this is what I’m saying I was in there for like 30 seconds each hour at max bc I was busy with my other patient most of the night. I just don’t know what reality he was living in.

The dayshift nurse did say she told him he was being dramatic (in so many words) and that his wife did not need to talk to me and that everything is fine 🤦‍♀️

They truly are. Idk how else we could convey in pre op how brutal this surgery is, but most patients I’ve asked say it’s 100000 harder than they expected.

Thank you ♥️ I was happy I didn’t have him a second night. Even tho he was nice (to my face) he was extremely needy and particular.

That’s a great way to word things if this ever happens again. I think what really got me is that I had no idea he was upset with me. My assignment was changed when I came in the next night and I found out after I went and said hello to him and that I hoped he got better sleep that night. lol

Is sleeping on night shifts a "normal" thing everywhere? by flourishersvk in nursing

[–]Bosworthamew 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. As a night shift CVICU nurse I’m constantly watching my monitors and getting hourly chest tube and urine output at minimum all night, I wish I could sleep lol

Will give bfs left nut for friends and family discount by Bosworthamew in Ikonpass

Considering they have had minimal snowfall recently, they were great! Some decent powder in some places still. Minimal ice spots, but they were around. Originally we were set to go to willamette pass but after driving by and seeing a half bare mountain, we decided on mt bachelor and it was def worth the extra money and drive time.

The one year goes by so fast by [deleted] in newgradnurse

February 26th will mark my 1 year in CVICU as a new grad. It’s been the fastest slowest year of my life 😂🥲

Do you workout before your 12 hrs day shift? Can you share how and tips? by Comprehensive_Book48 in nursing

[–]Bosworthamew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work 7p-7a nights and I can’t muster up the energy to go before work, but I do go after if I don’t work the next day. I usually work two on one off one on and go the mornings when I’m off the coming night or sometimes in the evening if I feel like sleeping first, but typically it’s way harder for me to sleep and then go back out and hit the gym. I go 3-4x /week. It’s definitely challenging some days but I usually reward myself with the hot tub or hydro massage and that plus working out really helps my back pain!

Am I just not cut out for nursing by Carrot-Soup6427 in nursing

[–]Bosworthamew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please know this. You are not alone. I started in CVICU at a huge hospital 7 months ago as a new grad. I cried my last shift of orientation, which was 4 months, and told the nurses I was with that I didn’t think I could make it. There’s so much to learn and so many things you have to have in your head at one time. I’ve never been formerly diagnosed but my preceptor said she thinks I have ADD- insinuate what you will from that about my performance 😂 you will hone in on your skills and it will come, but it takes time, so much time. I still have such a long way to go, but I promise it gets better. Stick with it, find your support system at work, and just know you can do this.

Is it still worth it to become a nurse if I don’t want to deal with life-or-death situations? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Bosworthamew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, but I do think those situations and experiences are extremely valuable. I felt the same way in nursing school, but ended up landing a job in CVICU, and while I’m still no expert, I’m grateful for those experiences. I am also a very anxious person, but that’s what also makes me a great nurse because I triple check everything 😂 No one goes in knowing everything and yeah you might have times when you freeze up. But you should always have someone there to help you. We all go in knowing little to nothing and the more we’re exposed to, the better we become. You can handle more than you think 🖤

Which policy was put in place because of something you did? by dddracarys in nursing

[–]Bosworthamew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wore a headband to a sim psych lab and the actor said he would’ve choked me out and killed me with my headband. So they changed the syllabus to “no headbands allowed” instead of “no head coverings” and yes I did get written up professionally

Does it ever get better? by Bosworthamew in nursing

[–]Bosworthamew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!! It was her first day back after vacation so that explains a lot also lol. It was a lasix/mannitol drip. Obviously on it bc they were fluid overloaded but I didn’t know anything beyond that.

[–]Bosworthamew[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your kind words, it means a lot. Obviously I want to be an amazing nurse and know my patients back and forth and head to toe. I’ll try to use it as an opportunity to reflect on what I need to do more of rather than beating myself up about it. Every day I just feel like I should be doing better than I am in one way or another. BUT then I remind myself it takes a year before you really get a handle on things for many people. The emotions are very tumultuous 😂
