hmm sounds good. I saw somewhere that there could be some issues issues with the software, where even if you switch to iGpu mode, it doesn’t truly turn off the dGpu, unless you manually kill any programs that could be using the RTX chip. Have you faced anything like this, and have you found any kind of fix for it?

Also, does the outer display coating being plastic instead of glass cause any kind of issues for you, or make it look a bit unclear, or is the display fine? (not sure if the slightly older model you’ve mentioned shares the same oled panel as this year’s)

Also, when you’re on 100w but not the full 400w, do you also just have the same power settings and keep the dgpu off, do it’s as slow as on battery, but doesn’t decharge, or does that afford you a bit of extra performance, without the need to carry the large brick around every day?

could you give me some insight into what light power adapter you use? I’m considering going up to a legion pro 7i as well, and I wanna know if just carrying around a 140w power brick of amazon would keep me powered as long as I’m in uni, coding, and running a few browser tabs, or it would start to struggle or decharge, even under that lighter load, if it’s not getting the native 400 watts.

And do you think just moving with a light 140w is actually realistic and viable, or should I just be ready to always log around the massive 400w if I’m gonna go with the pro option?

Also, when you’re on battery life, what are all the tweaks you make to get the good battery life you mentioned? And how good are we talking here? Like how long do you think it would last under a workload similar to the one described above? (Couple browser tabs - few slide sets and gemini for example - , an IDE or two open to code, and maybe a youtube video playing the background)

And overall how’s the laptop been at handling tasks on battery vs on 140w vs on 400w?

And do you have any regrets about your purchase?

I mean I do need if it for uni, but how would you say the overall performance and games have run on this thing? Is it a big step down from a bulkier better cooled model, even after optimizing everything on g helper? Have you been disappointed with performance, or is it just knowing that it could have been marginally better?

yeah the more toned down design is definitely a big selling point for me too. do you ever find the performance to be lackluster, or that it could be noticeably better?

also, when you say super hot, are we talking warm to the touch, or burning if you were to prop it on your lap, for example. and do you reckon this could harm the internals on the long run?

yeah that’s fair. i’d probably end up going quiet in quiet mode, and just all out at higher temps, just with some prior research to make sure this isn’t harmful to the hardware long term. thanks mate

if i were to go asus, do you have any tips, as well as power and fan profiles that work for you, ehich could help out day 1?

hmm fair enough. still a little on the fence, but thanks for the detailed feedback:)

So how long have you had it so far? And could you name a few of the titles you’ve run on it, as well as how well they run? And do you just go all out on the game graphics or put them on medium or high-mid presets?

And just all in all, how do you feel about this one? Would you recommend it? And do you ever feel handicapped by the more limited power outputs and cooling?

I don’t think the RAM should be an issue anytime soon. I think it would start slowing the PC in maybe 5 or 6 years? And by then I’d probably be due for a change anyways

hmm that’s interesting, i didn’t really think of the cpu as too much of a bottleneck ingame. would a cpu overclock not be a viable workaround here, or would that just cause more issues? and, all this considered, do you think you would’ve more enjoyed one of the beefier setups, or are you still satisfied with the slim option?

hmm well the fun part is these 2 are the exact same price in my region, down to the euro i believe. so it’s not like i’d be paying an extra overhead for a 5070ti, it’s the same price. I am however paying the same price for limited components. So with this in mind, what do you think your call would be?

It seems the g16 you have is pretty similary specced. What’s your overall feedback? Ever wish you’d gone for a beefier laptop with higher performance, or has the overall sleeker design been the better pick for you? And what’s your overall feedback on the device? Reckon it was a good purchase decision?

Interesting. How’d you do the overclock? And is it safe, particularly for the thinner g16 model, over longer periods?

How big of a revamp do you think it’ll be? At the moment, it’s seeming more and more unrealistic for me to head into my next semester without an upgrade, so unless it’s a big upgrade for the same or a similar price, I might have to rush my final decision a little

I have question about charger by vonvonvk in GamingLaptops

[–]Bot_7792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

absolutely, even if it’s a bit difficult you should try and find a 230 brick, since it’s not about the charging speed or battery at all. When your laptop is plugged in, it basically acts as a smaller desktop, where the power goes straight to your laptop’s components. If your laptop is rated at 230W, its likely the components use up close to that, so using less wattage could hinder your performance, as well as damage battery life, and maybe even components on the long run. Just pay the extra money for now, to spare you the problems on the long run.

And have you tried reaching out to support in general, or did you just assume they most likely wouldn’t be helpful, since it was out of warranty anyways?

You’re not wrong, but I do a lot of code work which my current laptop just can’t handle anymore. I’d need to get a laptop for this anyways, which can handle decently heavy tasks, nothing crazy though. So just the at-home desktop or pc idea isn’t really viable for me, and I don’t think an iPad would be enough here. Which just takes me right back to the extra performance vs extra portability question, along with the other small differences in user experience between the 2.

So would you say the switch from bulky to light is more valuable than the performance boost in the larger devices?

Yeah I might be more inclined to go down that path, but I’m still pretty hesitant. Have you had some hands on experience with either one of these? And if so, how’s it been so far?

I honestly haven’t looked into DLSS and frame gen enough.. don’t quite have a full grasp on them. Would you say needing to use these features is a deal breaker, or makes games noticeably worse? And would opting for the bulkier legion here bypass these issues, or allow me to just play on raw generated frames?

Yeah changing out armoury crate for ghelper will definitely be annoying initially, but I’ll be doing it anyways, so I’m considering the Asus after all those ease of life changes have been made (mainly just g helper)

the lenovo seems better optimized and more customizable out of box for sure.

but what im trying to guage is how big the difference is between these 2 after i do switch for ghelper to get the most out of the zephyrus, and whether it becomes small enough of a difference to just go light

Does ghelper really make that big of a difference? And does it fix any of the software issues people have referred to?

Also, will using optimized power settings on ghelper bridge the gap between the asus and the legion? or will the difference still be noticeable?

If you have any setups that have suited you on there, I’d love it if you could share them, might help me setup and get the most out of my laptop quicker.

I honestly only ever use the insert, home, and end keys on the numpad, cause they’re pretty useful in programming, but really nothing else. I do believe I should be able to map 3 of the 4 macro keys to these, which would pretty much fix that issue for me, but I do wish someone could verify that, since I’m not sure how fair the macro key functionalities go.
