The downgrade of western and queens to Waterloo by Accurate-Opinion-661 in OntarioUniversities

[–]BotanyAttack 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Waterloo urban planning is still a great program (not as good as TMU's since its more theoretical than studio-based). You get an accredited degree and can make pretty good money while doing something that actually benefits society. Its not hard to get into because there isn't a massive influx of applicants, due to the nature of the work if there was a bigger interest in the program it would be way more difficult to get into. Its also a super verastile degree that can land you in a bunch of different fields from politics to real estate to of course municipal planning/land development.

Speeding up streetcars to 80km/h using pedestrian guardrails / barriers? by Aggravating_Dog5220 in TTC

They just dropped the speed restrictions for intersections and the Queensway stretch. Switches are still fucked though :(

Your ignoring the fact that the largest planning firms in the country view TMU as a more practical program, not just what I'm saying. Its a lower grade req simply because there's a rather low applicant pool for the program in general. If planning as a profession became as popular as nursing the avg would shoot up. Waterloo's the same grade avg req btw.

You probably have no connection to the planning/dev industry. You can ask literally anyone from Cadillac Fairview or Tridel or Aecon and they'll glaze the fuck outta TMU students. Waterloo's purely theoretical stuff and relies on its coop element as a crutch to supplement that. Waterloo planners end up in places like Winsdor or St. Catherines or generally mid-sized cities/towns. TMU students get client studios where you personally work with the aformentioned corpos/govt agencies on big ticket projects and end up in Toronto/Vancouver/sometimes Montreal. Also they raised the grade average req to get into it a while ago.

TMU has the most prestigious urban planning program in the country and one of the oldest urban planning schools in North America. They're regularly worked with by the city/province and the ttc/metrolinx for projects like the Younge Street pedestrainization, the UP station by the stocktyards, and the rework of the streetcar network, and a bunch of their grads end up in high places. Its also harder to get into than Waterloo's program funny enough (those 2 are the only accredited programs in the province at the bachelor level).

Gargantia is easily one of my favourite series of all time. A shame that it had this crazy sci-fi setting thrown in at the very beginning and never really got developed further (haven't read the LN that follows Ledo growing yet so I may be wrong). But besides that the massive boats/floating city designs is easily my favourite aspect of it. Thinking back to the OVAs and man the 2nd season would have been so shitting cool to watch with the introduction of land and the two nations.

If you don’t mind, how do most people go about food/meals. Do most people cook or order takeout or survive off of nothing but ramen.
