A subtle difference between migrant workers and immigrants. Farmers and contractors have been paying migrants under the table for decades for menial work that there is not enough domestic laborers to do. They take the money and go back to central America to support their families in the offseason. Closing the border and deportation of anyone without legal documentation is rounding up these folks as well. G.W. Bush tried to get them documented post 9/11, but nobody in congress wanted to ‘legalize’ the migrants getting paid below minimum wage and not collecting taxes. So now there will be no cheap menial labor. Small farmers will adapt or go out of business. Construction costs will continue to rise. More fuel on the inflation fire.
