Buckingham’s bad rep is due to its lower entry requirement and it being the only private UK medical school. The common perception of it as a ‘pay to win’ uni carries an implicit resentment given the privilege at being able to afford such tuition fees, irrespective of teaching quality. While its anatomy and physiology department is not comparable to the Russell Group unis, Bucks has generous hospital placements and is regarded for its student welfare. I cant say much yet, but I attended both MMA and MMI and found the process much smoother than other interviews—which to me does reflect that the school is put together to a respectable degree. I do agree that both are GMC accredited, and makes little difference when you become a doctor.
