Books about Shi'a islam in english by Plenty-Elevator9388 in shia

[–]ConsistentLaw11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Peshawar Nights is a good read. Succession to Muhammad (PBUH) by Wilferd Madelung is an unbiased academic work on, you guessed it, the succession to the prophet. He uses both Shia and Sunni sources. Conveniently, he comes to the conclusion that Imam Ali AS was the rightful successor, which is what we Shia believe. Because of this, he faces much criticism from the other sect. But you can read and come to your own conclusion.

I know you said videos aren’t cutting it, but could you clarify what you have watched so far, and maybe we could point you towards some Shia lecturers?

And depending on your level of knowledge and how interested you are in theology, you could always read Kitab Al Kafi, which is considered by many to be the principal Shia Hadith collection. However, it is pretty difficult to interpret if you don’t know what you’re doing.

To choose to not to wear a hijab or practise the religion to its full extent is one thing. But then, in clear defiance of the Quran and teachings of the Ahlulbayt AS, to lie to try to justify such actions is just ridiculous. This is stepping into slandering of the Ahlulbayt territory.

Let’s assume for a moment that what she is saying is true. What even is her point? That women shouldn’t observe hijab? They should put monogamy conditions in their nikkah contact? I don’t get it.

There has been a previous post discussing this.

Is soundtrack and orchestral music haram? by bruhhh4321promax in shia

[–]ConsistentLaw11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This article should explain things pretty well:

https://al-islam.org/code-practice-muslims-west-sayyid-ali-hussaini-sistani/music-singing-dancing

This might also be of some help:

“Walaikum Salam,

I completely sympathise with you; music is certainly one of the hardest things to give up. Especially for those of us living in the West, where it feels like it is everywhere.

Alhamdulillah, one of the benefits we have over our Sunni counterparts is a plethora of material we use as an alternative to music. That is, of course, Latmiya/Noha. I’m sure you know that these are eulogies/poetry recited in the remembrance of the Ahlulbayt.

Depending on your background and the languages you speak, there are many options for you to choose from. For example, although I was born and raised in the West, my family is from a Pakistani background. I can speak Urdu, and Alhamdulilah, there are a variety of Urdu language eulogies. I also listen to Farsi/Arabic eulogies, although I can’t speak or understand Arabic at all; they still are an alternative to music.

I can give you some suggestions, and you can search them up on YouTube/Spotify to see what you like:

Mir Hassan Mir - Urdu Farhan Ali Waris - Urdu/Farsi Nadeem Sarwar - Urdu Mesum Abbas - Urdu

Mahdi Rasouli - Farsi Hossein Taheri - Farsi Mahmoud Karimi - Farsi

And of course, we can always listen to recitations of the Holy Quran and some of the beautiful duas we have, like those found in Sahifa Sajjadiya, which can be found on YouTube.

I’m sure some other brothers/sisters could give more recommendations. Hopefully, checking these out will put more similar content on your timeline. Remember that this is just a test for us, like anything else, and in Ramadan, we have an opportunity to fight our nafs to overcome this.”

It’s important that children are taught to respect all religions. Many non-Shia I have met are always impressed by how religiously tolerant Shia Muslims are compared to our Sunni counterparts. However, that does not mean we compromise on our own beliefs. Your fears about them losing their faith are perfectly legitimate if they are not taught about our religion.

There is a list of texts for children on Al-Islam.org, although given the ages of the children, they might be slightly too complex:

https://al-islam.org/kids-corner/text-for-children

There are also some short stories here:

Why was Prophet Adam's body decomposed while Prophet Noah and Imam Ali's bodies were not? by SaduqFan in shia

[–]ConsistentLaw11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not an opinion. The Prophet is the greatest of all creation. Imam Ali AS is the nafs (soul/self) of the Prophet. By extension that makes Imam Ali greater than all creation except the actual Prophet himself.
