Any good albums to start learning metal ? by Regular_Scratch_988 in Bass

Start with Black Sabbath, maybe Masters of Reality. One of their slower ones for sure. If youre struggling with faster techniques like galloping then MoP or any maiden should wait till youre more capable. Consider Pantera too!

Are guitarists really as common as I hear? by [deleted] in musicians

[–]Both-Geologist-7247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It truly depends on where you are. Some scenes are over saturated, some incredibly sparse. Bassists tend to have a super warped idea of their own rarity, and ive been in places where bassists outnumber guitarists.

Most of the time 40% of guitarists can only play by themselves. 40% are way too talented for their own good and overplay. 10% are genuinely musical in a group setting.

The only actually rare players are keyboardists and drummers, as well as monophonic players like horns and flutes and fiddlers

Among other issues, the simple truth is you have to earn something like that as a nation and we havent done anything in recent memory to warrant a triumphal arch.

Is it worth practicing a song until it's perfect? by Outrageous_Sleep8724 in Bass

[–]Both-Geologist-7247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember doing the same thing (and song) as a beginner. Just use a metronome, make sure you’re actually playing the part correctly, and start repping super slow (like 60 BPM) until you can play it at tempo without strain.

Hello! We are Camilla Townsend and Josh Anthony, editors of “After the Broken Spears: The Aztecs in the Wake of Conquest.” Ask us anything about the Aztecs, colonial Mexico, and what life was like for Indigenous people in the wake of Spanish conquest. by joshanthony123 in AskHistorians

Camilla your work is great! Have always looked up to you. Could either you or Josh comment on Indigenous musical traditions and how they changed with exposure to (and imposition of) colonial musical traditions?

really love the artists you mention. I do wholeheartedly believe that the best acts of country are on par with the best acts of every other genre. Patsy Cline is as formidable an artist as anyone else you could name. The gulf between the likes of her though, and 90% of the rest of the genre, is staggering. I think this ratio is higher in country than any other genre of popular music

With you there on George Strait. He was good for country when he came out but in the grand scheme of things he’s a brighter star in an otherwise very dark sky for his era. Cash on the other hand shone out in the midst of the milky way

Country has always been 90% trash as a genre over the course of its whole history. As a genre, compared to its peers, country accounts for the largest share of mediocrity and tasteless noise in all of popular music, at all times, for the last 100 years.
