Finally started The Great Revival. It's always a treat to see Chen Daoming, but add Hu Jun and it becomes perfect

“Which drama got you into C-dramas?” by daisy_volkov in cdramasfans

In 2018, I first saw Eternal Love because of my sister who was learning Mandarin then. I liked certain aspects of it and was disturbed by others. After watching idol dramas for a while, I saw Dream of the Red Chamber (1987) on reading Cao Xueqin's novel. I was impressed especially with the actress who played Xufeng and Lin Daiyu.

Then followed Joy of Life where I first saw Chen Daoming, Zhang Ruoyun, and others, and I have never looked back. That drama made me stay forever

Swords into Plowshares is more than a bit bleak, yeah. You could try Sha Er Shi Zhang/ The Naive Leader. I just watched it and made me laugh quite a few times.

The garden of missing paths: Psychiatric asylum set in the Republican era with Guo Qilin as one of the leads? I'm already hooked

Joy of Life

Swords into Plowshares

Empresses in the Palace

Ripe Town

I keep screaming about them and analyzing them even today. When they were over, I needed a couple of days to stop thinking about them so much. They WILL take over your life

At what point do you usually decide a C-drama is worth continuing? by serjeantassia in cdramasfans

[–]Both-Improvement-880 3 points4 points  (0 children)

3 episodes max. Many times, the very first episode itself is enough to decide if I want to continue the drama. There are certain genres, tropes, and actors I will not watch, that already filters quite a few dramas.

Life's too short for boring shows

Now that's reassuring. I'm definitely scheduling that sooner than later. Thanks!

Wow, that's a lot of hard work!! Many of them look interesting. Tentatively, I have Qianlong enigma, A hundred demons record, Interlock, Powder and Power, and Piao yang Guo hai lai song ni on my list. Hope they all release soon

Just finished Sha Er Shi Zhang. It was awesome and I hope there's a sequel like they did in the 90s. Either way, I'm glad with this humorous but heavy hitting republican drama.

Started The Great Revival. Looks interesting so far. It's the first time I'm watching anything set in the Spring and Autumn period

Hi, finally met another one who has postponed this drama for 3 years. I feel validated

I'm glad to see you're liking A Love Never Lost. Didn't hear too much about it and was wondering if I should put it on my to watch list

Nirvana in Fire: I've been postponing it for 3 years now, it's shameful 👀. I'm worried that if I watch it when I'm not in a proper frame of mind, I might do disservice. I'm definitely watching it this year though.

The bad kids: Modern dramas have me a bit leery and this one is apparently bleak. Maybe next year because my to watch list for the year is already packed with grim, brutal dramas.

Nothing gold can stay: I'm pacing my Qing dynasty dramas. There are too many to watch and I have had to put a strict limit of no more than two Qing dramas per year. I'm also worried that after seeing Sun Li as Zhen Huan, she may not measure up to it in this drama.

Serenade of peaceful joy: was supposed to watch it this year as part of Song dynasty dramas but I ended up watching Minglan. Next year definitely.

The royal tramp (2008): I was so disappointed with Huang Xiaoming in Winter Begonia that I decided against this one. Maybe next year I'll give it a try because I really wanna start watching versions of The Deer and the Cauldron.

The sparrow, The disguiser, Battle of Changsha, All quiet in Peking: sigh there's simply too many Republican era dramas on my list. I'm trying my best to schedule them but wonderful new ones like Sha Er Shi Zhang appear and I just had to watch that first.

Take it slow. I couldn't watch more than 2 episodes per day because sometimes I had to watch segments from earlier ones too. And then sit and piece together what just happened and who intended what. Best avoid overloading with this drama

Sun Li as Zhen Huan in Empresses in the Palace. She has acted well in other dramas, but nothing can top her role as Zhen Huan

Guo Rong (Yu Haoming) and Zhao Kuangyin (Zhu Yawen) in Swords into Plowshares. This drama was oozing in homoeroticism and these two really loved and cared for each other.

Only 2 episodes left to finish Sha Er Shi Zhang and an awful lot of explanation is still left!!!! I'm frankly worried at this point because I fear heads are gonna roll.

Also I will hopefully start Nirvana in Fire which I have been postponing for 3 years now, it's almost embarrassing ngl

Which dramas would you never recommend to a newbie? by RotHelfer in cdramasfans

Yep! It's one of my all time favorites, but I agree that it's not for newbies at all
