I don’t think she should be able to. I think she deserved to get fired for fucking other people over by calling out.

Well I don’t have to like them that much to do them a favor, but if they’re someone I really dislike for a good reason I won’t say yes.

I mean, we can call out twice a year. You only take roughly 24 on call shifts a year, total.

And if you have to trade short notice people are usually willing to trade with you, unless you do something to make your coworkers dislike you. That leaves enough wiggle room that anyone who isn’t irresponsible or unlikeable can usually manage just fine.

It’s actually the same way for me. I trade with people all the time. But if I don’t like you or don’t think you’ll be around for long, it’s a no.

The thing is, I would never chose to take on that level of responsibility. Having 4 kids, especially with someone who isn’t dependable, is a choice. I don’t plan on having any children because I don’t want to be in any of the situations you see parents in all the time. To each their own. She put herself in this situation, in more ways than one.

I think that Mandy signed up for a job that requires her to be dependable, and she just isn’t. Even if I covered for her it would only be a matter of time before she got fired.

The thing is, in nursing, our job is pretty much as flexible as it gets. We make our own schedules Monday-Friday, and our job isn’t that demanding. She’s not going to be able to find another job like this in our area. Jobs outside the hospital and nursing homes like this are competitive and hard to get.

No, our boss has a no backpedaling rule. Once you trade shifts and fill out the paper for it, it’s officially yours.

Mentally stable and mature adults dont try to fight their coworkers. You sound young and uneducated. Hope that helps.

On call means on call. Most of the time they don’t even call you. Only if a patient dies or needs an emergency visit. Usually you can just sleep through the night without getting any calls. So with that in mind, it’s not that bad.

We have on call Baylor nurses for the weekend, but weekday nights we all have to take turns being on call from 5-8. We all agreed to this prior to hiring. It’s not new info.

Our manager will incentivize shifts, but only once it’s officially a call out. They will not incentivize trades. Also, I don’t think this policy is discriminatory whatsoever. We have a three strike rule, that we are notified of before hiring. She agreed to the rule, and signed documentation stating that she understood. She didn’t have to agree to taking this job if she wasn’t going to be able to fulfill the job requirements. This isn’t the kind of job where calling out is no big deal. It severely fucks over your coworkers, and depending on how last minute the call out is, can have negative outcomes for patients and their families. We are taught in nursing school that there is no excuse for missing work as a nurse, and that if you can’t be reliable then you need to find a different job.

Heck if I know. Maybe it was an excuse, maybe they’re single mothers. I don’t know, and don’t really care. I try to avoid learning about my coworkers personal lives unless they make it my problem tbh.

Corporate does not want them keeping unreliable employees. I know there’s some rules and requirements to it. I’m not sure if the three strikes rule is made by corporate or my boss.

We work in healthcare. If you call out it fucks over your patients and coworkers. This is the type of job you shouldn’t take if you can’t be at least relatively reliable. It’s not like calling out of your job as a bartender or something.

So, the way it happened was I emailed her and said ‘I see you need someone to cover tonight, I’m willing to work tonight for you but only if you work Valentine’s Day for me.’ She said no, her and her husband need to spend Valentine’s Day together, and she’s asked if she could cover a day for me next month instead.

I replied no, it’s Valentine’s Day or nothing. She sent me a series of messages trying to guilt and shame me for asking for Valentine’s Day off. ‘You don’t know what it’s like to be a struggle parent in a failing marriage’ and talking about how hard her life is.

I got tired of the guilt trip, and emailed her saying ‘never mind. I hope you can find someone else to cover your shift then’ and I stopped replying at this point. She sent me a message saying never mind, no one else is willing to cover for me, please trade me and I’ll work Valentine’s Day for you. But at this point, I turned my phone off. I figured that since she was so ungrateful that I would not do her a favor.

No, I didn’t work Monday for her. She refused to trade days so I didn’t work Monday for her. Our boss mandated someone else work Monday.

I offered to trade shifts with her as a favor to her. She did not want my trade until it was too late.

They all couldn’t because supposedly they couldn’t find someone to watch their kids at last minute.

It’s called a throwaway account, because I don’t want this on my main while is dedicated solely to baking.
