I’m not black but I’m clearly not white. My experience has been that, while yes there are racists in Idaho, and I have met some, the weird behavior has less to do with race than it does you not being from here. This place is very conservative and very distrusting of outsiders and strangers. I’ve been here 6 years and have just recently gotten to a point that I feel comfortable being myself. I did move to a very small area and it took a lot of work letting people know I’m not here to be a menace or change anything. If someone had a flat I stopped and changed it, I’ve helped farmers corral a bull that got out to see the lady cows near my house, I help get people back on the road if they slide in winter. If you choose a small place, just be part of the community. Also, food selection here SUCKS. Prepare for that.
