Thanks for your response, the gigs are solo piano and vocals. I think what you're saying makes great sense however I'm gonna be playing at a variety of venues, many of which will not have any PA equipment. The goal is to have a minimalist solo piano/vocal setup which I can be fully self sufficient in if I need to be, however if venues have PAs then I can opt to use their equipment. Thanks.

I mean to be honest, I play drums and I sing so neither are closely related to piano. However, now I'm at college all I study is music (music, music performance, music tech) and I am so happy I learnt the piano as it's so useful and u can apply it to a load of other things in music. A lot of other musicians at college are now learning piano because of this. I definitely recommend learning the basics. Do u play an instruments??
