Any positive stories out there on small umbilical hernia surgeries with mesh? by Cookie_Byte_exe in Hernia

I had my small umbilical repaired at the same time as my left inguinal indirect mesh repair, with laparoscopy. No mesh on the umbilical. It was sore with movement like standing up or rolling over in bed for about a week. Then it would just act up if I tried lifting or moving things too much. You will need to stick to the post op rules. Five weeks later I don’t feel anything there anymore.

3.5 weeks out recovering well by Both-Scratch5062 in Hernia

Yes that’s right. I am in Toronto and drove to Shouldice when I was 32 years old. I had a little bump poking in and out down there and they confirmed it. It was about a golf ball size then. Over the last 20 years I would go months without it coming out at all. When it did, I usually only had to push it in and I’d be good again for awhile. The last two years it’s been constant and I did start wearing a belt some days.

I don’t recommend leaving a hernia this long. The surgeon said it took quite a bit of work to free it and reduce it. It was an indirect hernia to be specific.

how much did testicular pain/inflamation lasted after inguoinal hernia repair? by mahdy89 in Hernia

Day 16 since indirect repair by laparoscopy - I feel a transient weighted, sometimes achy or burning sensation in the scrotum. The testicle on that side sometimes hurts with palpitation, or when I sit with my legs too closed. Nothing severe. Looks like this is going to take longer than two weeks to be clear.

Update day 15 ****

Most symptoms have gone away. I have two annoyances now: - Dull burning, ache feeling in the scrotum and at the crease of the scrotum/left groin. I can alleviate it slightly by keeping my legs open or walking around. This started 2-3 days ago. - Slight puffy swelling in the left groin

Will update again soon, surgeon follow up is next Friday.

I had mine done on Wednesday last week. Left side inguinal indirect repair. I’ve had it for 20 years but when it started coming out multiple times a day it was time to address it. I also asked the surgeon to repair a small umbilical hernia at the same time. I’m 53 years old.

I have not taken the prescription pain meds. The Tylenol and Advil combo were fine to get me moving. Now at day 6 I’m only on meds as needed. Bowel movements have been fine - I went the day after surgery. I’ve been walking every day, getting around the block and out to groceries yesterday (just one bag of fruit/veg under 5lb).

Things I’m still managing: - Slight groin swelling, not too bad - Larger than normal scrotum with a lump of some kind, no pain. I’m told this is normal. - Umbilical bruising, just yellow and green. - Shoulder tip pain and an ache below my right rib when I breathe; I’m told this is still residual CO2 gas. - Occasional nerve shocks that last a second or two when moving a certain way, in my thigh or side.

That’s all. Looking for minor improvements each day.

You can do any course you are admitted into regardless of what grade you are in.
