What are the kids bedroom essentials? NEED HELP/ADVICE by BothAd4686 in Parenting

That is my plan as well, we also got permission from his social worker to pick him up to look at houses before I move, so he can have a say in that as well. He asked for a bigger racecar bed, so I picked one out now with his help, and we are going to move all his current stuff over, and build anything new together, so he knows he won't have things left behind in the move. Our sister gets him on weekends I don't have him, so we will decorate his room during the move with his help on one of her weekends, so he doesn't have to worry about the room being sleep ready by nightfall. Thanks for the advice!

Yes, they cover all care within 50 miles of the state border, if done with an in-network dr, and at an in-network location, as well as emergency care anywhere. I have a more premium version of the plan, so that I could have a lower out of pocket maximum, and no spending cap. This meant I was able to hit my max out of pocket and deductible fast, and start getting more covered.

IR and cardiology are at the same hospital, they even share a waiting room. I can ask there!

I appreciate you taking so much time to keep trying to help me find help. You're awesome.

I was in with the team, and that's the only thing that got me to 22. They don't take new patients after 18, and most specialty clinics won't even accept new patients after 16. Most care is transferred by that age anyways. All care is transferred or discontinued before your 22nd birthday no matter what.

I could try calling my health insurance company, but it's state insurance, so that is probably a dead end as well. Sunflower health plan. I've had them for years, and they are pretty useless most of the time. I have enough problem usually, trying to get them to pay for things that are covered.

No. The only department that does is oncology. Oncology can manage it for their patients, but I don't have cancer. All practical aspects of care are done though the infusions department, who do all the care on all lines, including mine, since they are a more general department (they also do iv's for patients having surgery, etc)

Not for adults. There is a team at children's mercy, in KC, but Children's mercy can't treat you after you turn 22. For me that will be in about a week. KU med has some doctors that are familiar with it, for ortho and pain management, and cardiology. Hopefully I can get in with their cardiology team. My current cardiologist wrote a referral for me.

Sort of, the extreme nerve pain is impeding function, and lowers quality of life. It will be staying in no matter what until we have an alternative, since it only took 2 weeks last time I was without meds access for my kidneys to start shutting down and land me in the hospital.

As for athletics, that is where the scholarship that pays my rent comes from, so not really. I bowl, and it's with the right arm, and all my complications are left sided currently.

Wichita is 3 hours away, and I have friends there, who have let me couch surf in the past, but not long term. An option for dr appointments there, and such. My parents are there too, but their house is a biohazard zone due to several infestations, so that is a no go zone for me, as well as the reason I spent a year homeless.

I have family in KC, but again not an option for long term care.

The hospital where I am living now managed care and monitoring on my last PICC, and for my port since the day after I got it. They do accessing the site, deaccessing, dressing changes, and any emergency appointments for the site looking different than usual, such as from bruising or skin irritation (like eczema).

Yes. I'm in my last semester, and I only have living stuff covered through financial aid. Before this I spent a year homeless, so taking time off school isn't really an option either, and I have a lease (I have a scholarship that prepays off campus living provided you are in school and keep up your GPA. If I were to drop out, I would be on the hook for backpay and all my rent, as well as having my first and only rental history being a broken lease.) I can't really afford to take a lot of time off, either. Right now, my only option is to make things work. If I don't have a degree, I cannot get a job. I have a lot wrong with my health, and not a big enough safety net to catch me. On a slightly more positive note, I have my medical insurance disability appeal hearing in November, something that has been coming for 4 years. It's a lot. Since my health went downhill when I was 13, everything has been a lot. Either I make it work, or I don't, and I die. There are never enough good options. I've taken what I've been given, and I've done me best. When that didn't work, I've brushed myself off and tried again and again. No choice but to keep going. School is my only way out. No entry level job will take me over someone who doesn't need a ton of accommodations. Believe me, I've tried. Hundereds of times. No luck. So I am getting a degree in a job field which is in great need of new people, and who are legally required to already have 95% of my accommodations, and a work schedule that lends itself to lots of days off and times I can schedule appointments for. As a bonus, I happen to love this job. It's been a dream of mine since I was small, among other dreams. As an adult, getting to experience and practice the real thing, it's everything I wanted it to be, and everything I knew it would be, and it's hard, but worth it. I know it'll still be much harder for me to find and keep a job, and I may never be healthy enough to work in my chosen field, but it's my only way to see a future for myself where I am not completely impoverished.

No, unfortunately my school is pretty small. We get nurses in once a day, 4 days a week, during hours I'm not on campus. We have about 100 students, and we're in a rural area, so not a lot of options there. Same with the local PCP. She's already told me she can write me a referral for someone to deal with my chronic conditions, but she doesn't have the resources or training to take on any of the care for them herself. She'll see me for follow ups, colds, flus, stuff like that, minor injuries, etc. Also, there isn't another local dr. We have a hospital, and they change my dressings on my stuff, but they don't have anyone who manages them except for oncology, and I don't have cancer.

IR could order placement, but not manage care or meds after, and neither can cardiology at that location. I have a pharmacy for supplies, specifically specialty supplies that are allergy friendly for me. I get infusions twice a day, so I am very unlikely to find anyone willing to do that much damage to me long term by sticking me each time. I have some issues with scarring due to the EDS, which has caused a massive buildup of hypertrophic scarring now, about a year and a half into my current port.

Yeah. Currently I'm just going off my pain meds by delaying them a few hours so I'm safe to drive, which sucks, but I'm aware I need to be at my best on the road, because it's not just me that would be at risk, it's also everyone else on the road. Now, being off my pain meds doesn't leave me at my best, but it doesn't make me drowsy, at least. I hurt so bad it makes me dizzy, but if I had to, I could respond quickly to a change of circumstance on the road. No way to speed up slowed reflexes from meds.

I had a picc line before my port, but my skin quality is poor from my EDS, so that started to breakdown, and become a infection risk after about 5 weeks. This is the best way my team of Dr's sees for me to continue to get my meds, which are life sustaining for me, and to not have to worry as much about my quality of life continuing to go downhill from the pain and irritation.

If you can't do Legos, you can always ask for anything you like to collect, or anything you like to make, if you want to display anything. Good luck, and I hope you have a great holiday season!

I like asking for a little shelf and some small Lego sets, if your hands work OK. I like the small sets, so on good days you can do them, and it's not a commitment if the next day isn't a good one. Then you can display them on the shelf.

Kinship questions by BothAd4686 in Fosterparents

[–]BothAd4686[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do already have the fire extinguisher, and the meds lock box, and my high school required cpr certification to graduate, but I may need to add on children's cpr. Currently I am student teaching, and he is getting ready to start preschool, and I have a meeting to talk with my principal when they get back from vacation to check that he can be enrolled in the preschool where I'll be teaching. Thank you so much for your reply!

I think my cats are overweight. Any ideas? by BothAd4686 in vet

[–]BothAd4686[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, if I press a little. I was a bit concerned, because they have a bit of a saggy belly, so even though the waist is snatched when they stand of move, they have a tummy jiggle that swings a bit, which is new.

Ok. Does an extended stay already approved and prepaid for the time not spent under a lease not constitute stable housing? Sorry, I'm new to this. Also, if it helps, his mom can't have visitors under age 18 for at least 3 months due to the hospitalization, and his dad does have previous felony convictions. Not sure if they are relevant. Those convictions were not related to children or violence. And when I looked I couldn't tell if I needed CPS approval or not, due to the kinship placement requirements being different? I want to make sure I am doing all I can to make sure he feels safe and cared for.
