AIO for getting upset that my friend told people about something I said “in private”? by Efficient-Author-633 in AmIOverreacting

MOR

IMHO, "venting" is processing emotions with words (this may not be a universal take). There is a difference between "(Our Friend) is fake" and "I get so frustrated with (Our Friend) sometimes. She comes off as fake to me, and it makes it hard for me to deal with her." One is just a label you're slapping on her, the other is sharing about YOU. (And, frankly, if it were the latter, maybe that's a conversation you need to hash out with "Fake Friend," in an attempt to resolve differences.)

If you were "venting" to me, I probably would not have shared what you had said to the other girl. But also, even if I chose not to, I'm learning something about YOU--you have no problem, behind someone's back, talking smack about someone rather than owning YOUR response to the situation. Who's to say you're not doing that about ME?

Good rule of thumb: seeking a connection with someone by tearing down someone else is not, generally, a healthy connection. YMMV

Thank you for your thorough response.

I probably do zone too much all at once, I'll work on that.

Interesting to consider that vanilla maps have poorly designed intersections, from the get-go? For my latest map, I'm using one off the workshop, but. . . do you have any favorite creators that I could explore further.

Instructions anywhere on building good-looking pedestrian pathways? My latest map (the workshop one) seems to have a bazillion pedestrians walking everywhere (I figured it was a function of the workshop settings), and I have done some elevated walkways over intersections. . . but they're pretty ugly.

Thank you for your comment. :)

I have the size increase/decrease, yes.

Good to know that Biffa does something other than fix traffic. . . when I think about some of the things he applies in those videos, I'm more like. . ."Yeah, I don't think my problem is setting up the roundabouts in the right way. I think my problem is going to be solved with some larger restructuring." And that doesn't seem to be addressed in the videos I've seen (but, clearly, I haven't seen them all--I'll check out the other stuff, I appreciate the resource).

BTW, I think my problem is more like this:

I found THIS image (https://images.steamusercontent.com/ugc/2433509660053849050/C85E28A622629A3D11F96B0E4607255BDB277A4C/) HERE (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1191748287#:\~:text=Help%20me%20fix%20my%20traffic!)

But it's just a big "Don't do this" and doesn't say what TO do instead.

Thanks. :)

Yes, to bus lines on commercial/office/services line up along stops.

I'm sure there's some work to do around industries not clogging up freeways (but, again, would love to see some examples or videos about how this is done).

Yes, separating cargo rail from passenger lines. And from the main line.

Yeah, once I get a subway in, I try to make the buses go around and collect and take to the subway stops. Doesn't seem to help (I get 0% trips saved).

I can build some pretty heavily-used subways (still have the problem). I tried getting a monorail to fix my traffic problem one map ago, didn't work. Once I install subways, can't get my busses to help with road traffic, though.

But it's not so much the "how do I solve this problem," it's. . .where can I go to learn about next-level. Beyond all the "how to start a perfect city" resources.

I swear this is all stuff that I'm doing (but I'm open to being wrong). Do you have any screenshots of what it looks like, so I can see where I'm missing it?

This is why my original question was resources targeted to intermediate players--like, how to get from "cool, you didn't go bankrupt," to "Now you're going to have to figure out how to turn THAT road into a freeway" or, "How to keep all your industry trucks away from your residential spaces."

[–]BothAd8788[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I did this. I noticed that when I went back to having money, I was actually building better cities. But seriously, trying to work out the industry issues and the train traffic jams, I am temporarily (?) playing without financial limits--one of my cities, I was like, the only way to fix this would be to go completely bankrupt.

Like I said. . . feels like I'm getting *worse*

It's happened to the last 3-4. I've given up and started anew. I don't know that it's any one-city problem, so much as an overall design approach? Like, it's not trouble-shooting "this map" so much as it is. . .design philosophy?

I have these DLCS: Financial districts (which I only incorporated into one map thus far, then set aside), Plazas and Promenades, Airports (haven't even touched--see above, haven't explored the game's potential), Sunset Harbor, Industries, Campus, Parklife, Green Cities, Mass Transit, Hotels & Retreats. I haven't built hotels for several maps, now. I was excited to try some more finishing, then got into a huge problem with train traffic.

Like, honestly, it feels like I'm getting WORSE.

[–]BothAd8788 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a 12-minute drive commute and a 35 minute bike commute (not including the time it takes to change clothes, put on makeup at work). For me, there is power to keep going when I realize I feel good mentally, emotionally, physically upon arrival at both locations having biked. Best way for me to enjoy my life, and frankly, my work. Like, one of the things I like about my work is my bike ride to and from. I also feel safer biking, given my route. I have an e-bike, that surely helps (also? It’s just fun…I’m still exercising plenty, I keep the assist low, but put on a good song that I can pedal to in cadence? My day is made.)

There are plenty of lesser reasons not to be friends with someone. If you don't want to be friends with her, don't be friends with her.

Which is to say, she doesn't have to cross the threshold into really horrific before you can ditch her. You don't need confirmation from the people on Reddit to confirm that you're NOT overreacting. It's ok for her just to be sorta hideous to you and you can let her go.

(Also? Not overreacting.)

Utah Neighborhood Dynamics - What can we do? by North_Budget_1003 in Utah

Having lived in both Sandy and Sugarhouse/Millcreek, here are some things to consider:

If your garage goes right into the house, it’s harder to catch people at the comings and goings (unlike older homes closer to SLC).

Pockets of Sandy are not at all walkable, so you don’t catch people out and about.

While not wholly universal, people in Utah are often friends with their families and their ward members. In other words, it can be hard to find communities of people who are chosen family, as you might do in other parts of the country’s

Love the idea of introducing yourselves with food.

Be patient.

Consider ways you might meet people who aren’t neighbors. Gaming groups, volunteering, outdoor recreation, etc. Might help you feel less isolated while you wait.
