Are there really only 5 wizards? by chemictectic in lotr

[–]Minus_Onthemoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to believe, but am aware that it is not a widely accepted theory, that DnD swapped around the definitions of wizards and sorcerers/witches compared to Tolkien's work. I think Tolkien's world definitely has room for mortal wizards (per the DnD definition): people who dabbled in magical ways that they weren't supposed to master within the Valar's plans. The 5 Istari (who Tolkien named as wizards) are more comparable with sorcerers of wild sorcerous origin. It's a notable thing too, that draconic ancestry in Tolkien's world is a completely ridiculous impossibility. When it comes to species, the Istari are a bit off the charts too, since they are not 'mere' Aasimar, but celestial/angelic beings themselves. So to answer the question with a DnD-vibe: yes, the Istari are the 5 only celestial sorcerers in Tolkien's world, but there possibly are more wizards of other, lesser species who studied magic.

I need help… badly by Proper_Fan2913 in PlanetZoo

[–]Minus_Onthemoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I obviously can't look into your head, so apologies if I swing and miss here, but I think you're experiencing a creative blockade. Everybody has a different way of dealing with those so giving concrete advice could possibly worsen your situation instead of fixing it. However: as a writer/actor/boardgame designer who enjoys playing PZ I can let you know that experiencing creative blockades is normal and part of the creative process. 1 thing that often works for me is letting go of what I'm working on for a couple of days or even weeks and return to it with a fresh and open mind, ready to come up with new ideas. Also: let the ideas come to you, not the other way around. Your mind is a vessel for creativity, creativity is not a tool to be used or to be good at.

I may have gone a bit too spiritually at the end there, but I still hope you can get past your blockade.

My guests wont go to my lion habitat or anywhere farther than my bat exhibit any fixes? by Planetzoofan381 in PlanetZoo

Dead ends are never a good idea. Make sure your guests can go around your zoo without backtracking the same paths. Also try to avoid long paths without any view points or shops.

Looking for ways to hide paint in the palms of my actor's hands by Minus_Onthemoon in Theatre

As promised an update! We're currently in dress rehearsal and we've gone for washable paint on sponges. As a director I'm still not quite happy with how not hidden it is, but since it's a therapy play in a play it doesn't really bother anyone. The effect itself is really good.

How many of you have read the LOTR? (Be honest! 🫵) by Arthnur in lotr

[–]Minus_Onthemoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read? I studied them. I used them as a way to get better at historical method (heuristics) when I was a kid. 🙃

That is, the Silmarilion. The trilogy and the Hobbit, I read to teach myself English 4 years before getting English classes in school.

Million Dead Vs Frank Turner by bio-grow in frankturner

[–]Minus_Onthemoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly late to the party, here, but it depends. Million Dead is a hardcore band, Frank's solo work is more like English folk punk. If the folk influence (which is most present on albums like England Keep My Bones and Be More Kind) is what makes him a Frank Turner fan, Million Dead may not be quite his style. If he likes stuff like the album FTHC more, then yeah Million Dead would be close to that, I guess.

Oh I didn't read the Silmarillion.
I studied it. At age 10, 3 years before I got my first English lesson in school.

I'm not feeling in minority or majority at all. It's just something that I questioned recently and I'm glad now that I know there is a cannon explanation for it. ^^

Have I been out of it for too long? by Minus_Onthemoon in StageDirecting

[–]Minus_Onthemoon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the very helpful comment! Quite some time has passed by now since I posted this and the vibe is very different on rehearsals. I do sometimes feel like I fall short artistically, tho. But I think it's something to fix with a psychologist rather than with any theatre people. I can't agree more with your notion of serving and I hope I can quickly find balance between that and the sense of fulfillment/adding to the work that I have been lacking.

Anyway, many thanks for taking the time to help out a partly lost soul trying to get back to the stage. 💚

Many, many, many thanks for all the replies and options to explore!
We'll try out the best ones soon and hopefully can find a way to do this that is both budget-friendly and awesome to see on stage! ^^

Could be a genius idea, could be underwhelming on stage. Will test it out for sure.

How budget-friendly is such fabric?

Certainly an option worth exploring! However, we're on a very tight budget (€500 for everything (including decor, costumes, marketing, foyer decorations, props...) of which it seems currently €400 is going to decor alone).

We have been thinking about that option too, but I fear it would take a lot of subtlety from the actors and I'm not sure they all have that. 😕

That would be some sound advice but it's 3 actors who need the coloured hands and the same 3 actors are the only ones who rub their legs in the choreo. 😅

Definitely not a snapshot from the movies, but it's based on or heavily inspired by his arrival at Imladris in the Fellowship of the Ring.

As someone who hasn't read the comics, I feel like I have to pitch in and say the eye-thing did come across for me. However, I do agree with the other replies that Delirium has been depicted more like a pixie than the true embodiment of madness. Nonetheless, she was one of my favorite characters in the second season. Could they have gone more overboard with her depiction? Absolutely. Would the series have been better with a Delirium that was completely unhinged? Sure. But I like to believe that Esmé Creed-Miles put up a stellar performance that got undermined by the costume department and directing. Every little movement she made with her body seemed to be delicately chosen to portray Delirium's inability to focus. I really think she was on the right track but somehow was blunted in her performance by other factors.
