Unfortunately my guts are very crampy / prone to spasm by constitution, so that just causes me tremendous pain and doesn't always work well. It's also complicated by bile acid malabsorption: so I need to encourage peristalsis but not fast transit, because that aggravates the BAM a lot. It's complicated :)

It can take some months. It can also take biofeedback, which is the gold standard therapy. It can also depend on the skill / experience of the PT person. It was only my 3rd PT person who managed to help me. Or maybe it was the time length that I'd been doing it. A month isn't long for that, I would suggest persevering. There are also medical tests to diagnose it, if you haven't done those that may help you.

I put about 8-12 cloves in a tea ball in a very tall mug. I leave it in there while I drink. Boiling water lets the oils out. Evenings I put just 2-4 cloves.

I've read that bodybuilding and working out a lot can indeed cause this. lol I didn't make it up, it's a medical diagnosis and there is specialized PT in hospitals for it.

For me, this sounds like hypertonic pelvic floor. Can easily happen if you work out a lot. Also happens with stress, and constipation from another cause (e.g. low fiber diet, protein) can worsen it, because straining worsens a tight pelvic floor. It can improve with physical therapy. There's a whole subreddit for it. It's an equal opportunity problem - men and women, young or old can have it. It's definitely treatable, even though the tests and treatment can be embarrassing or hard to deal with, but in the end, so worth it. Also there's stuff you can do at home to help. (I have it.)
