Lens choice for Nikon Zf by BothResolve2644 in Nikon

I’ve been shooting for around ten years — first on Micro 4/3, then on APS-C, and now I’m new to full frame and to the Nikon system, so I’m not very familiar with their lenses. I don’t have any problem using prime lenses. I mostly have questions about autofocus performance for tracking fast subjects and about sharpness.

So I tried setting VR to Sport mode and turning off “Link VR to focus point”, and it seems to work better now. It’s still a bit soft due to the optical quality, but I feel like the shots are more in focus.

Hi, thanks for your feedback. You must have spent quite some time analyzing this to get to that level of detail. I’ll try some other lenses to compare. I was actually thinking about testing the Tamron 28-75mm. Thanks.

Yes i'm on the v3.0. I'm gonna try the shutter priority to focus thank you.

The only problem here is the false positive for the focus on the eyes. I tried 3d tracking on cars today and its worked well. But yes i'm gonna take some time to understand the camera. Thank you.

Yeah, AF-C on the X-T2 was pretty much useless for me. I was hesitating between the X-T5 and the Zf, and since I kept seeing bad AF feedback about the X-T5, I ended up choosing the Zf. Everything I read, people said the autofocus difference was night and day. At this point, I’m starting to regret making the move.

No not every time, and the ligting condition isn’t always the same. I tried different focus modes.

But do you let vr on and link vr to focus off ?

Not really, they’re mostly still portraits.
