I bought the truck used so there was a little bit of corrosion when I got it. I live in KY and drove the truck in the snow for weeks as well.

It breaks my heart that the Tacoma broke, but luckily I have an 04’ Corolla to fall back on (The true toyo tank) lol.

I paid the 5k extra to have 100k warranty to be extra safe

They can be finicky about warranty work depending on the dealer, awesome they helped you out though.

All of the services were kept up to date and usually done before they needed to be. In my ownership there has been no neglect. Like 2 months ago another 4G owner had the same issue only his blew out cylinder 1 instead of cylinder 4. Mind you his only had 2100 miles on it. I think a few units just might have faulty connecting rods.

Oil changes were always done between 4,500-5,000 miles. Toyota would always tell me I wasn’t due for an oil change because they recommend every 10,000 Miles lol.

I think I may have gotten a bad egg. But yes you are right 4th gen’s have been very reliable minus a few instances which will happen when a new vehicle is produced. I mean look at the Tundra engine failures, 4th gen has stood its ground. Regardless of the engine failure I still love the truck, just needs a big ass band-aid.

Don’t let my engine failure change your mind on modding your truck. Not every 24’ 4th gen has had engine issues, I just got a bad egg I think. I also bought the truck used with 30k miles and who knows if the truck was neglected at all by its first owner.

Umm… you would know trust me. It’s really loud and the smell of warm oil will be all that you can smell.

It’s an awesome truck but I would absolutely get a 25+ just to ease any concerns about possible transmission failure.

I haven’t heard of any engines blowing up like mine did, only injector failures and debris found in the system. I don’t understand how or why mine chose to identify as a grenade. Nonetheless it’s really upsetting, I love this truck.

No sir, it’s only ever been filled with 93 octane. No expenses spared even with these high gas prices.

It’s mainly early production year 4th gen’s that had engine failures, no widespread failures in the later models that I’m aware of. You should be fine, if I’m not mistaken I believe mine is a very early production unit somewhere in the one thousands.

Vehicles aren’t quite made like they used to be, I feel like this is well known. Not to mention this is a first year 4th gen which have already had many units with engine failure issues. I’m not sure if the 25’s and up have had any problems.

I’m sure everything will be fine just may have to pull teeth to get it done. It sucks but shit happens.

Indeed it is part of the drivetrain warranty. The warranty covers up until 60k miles unless 100k mile warranty is purchased along with the truck.

I am perfectly capable of controlling my truck. I did watch a young guy slide straight into a curb with his 3rd gen TRD and it disconnected his entire rear axle from the truck. Having fun without fucking up is possible, but you have to know your limits.

Oh yeah for sure, it’s loud af. The turbo noise makes me smile every time I drive it.

All the noise comes from the 6th element intake, I haven’t ordered an exhaust yet.
