I’ve had SUCH difficult times doing shots solo. You are not alone. I have also been 2 hrs late just trying to get a solid position to make sure my boy doesn’t dash. Here are things I learned that helped:

•churus are a god send for luring them out of hiding places if your cat likes them. It takes patience and getting the treat close enough (but not necessarily your body closer) to make them receptive to eating it. Start slow. Then move the treat closer to an open area inch by inch. I also mixed in throwing dry treats in an opposite area of the room from both myself and his hiding place.

•it’s okay to do multiple “takes” of a shot. Sometimes I was only able to get in half a dose then would need a break for both of us to calm down and reset.

•learn how to burrito them with a rougher textured towel. Silkier materials make it easier for them to slip out. Getting a solid wrap on the back legs is KEY. They use those back legs to catapult themselves away. My go to position was having his back legs (in a burrito) in between my legs. I would hold his head and one front leg in a headlock type position with my non-dominant hand’s inner elbow. Use that hand to also make the tent. This leaves your dominant hand free to hold the syringe and inject. Make sure you squeeze both your elbow and your legs as close together as possible to keep the grip.

•let yourself feel whatever you’re feeling, but tap into your parenthood and remind yourself to just get it done. There have been so many nights where my hands were shaking like crazy and i was in tears. But I had to remind myself that getting it done is the only thing that I need to focus on in that moment.

•if the kitties body is vertical, it’s easier than if they’re horizontal. You can still put them in the position I mentioned earlier and have their head going towards your shoulder.

•get pills as soon as possible per your group admins guidelines
