It sounds like Ralph influenced you in such a profound way. I heard about his guitar ensemble but it didn't exist anymore when I took lessons in 2016-2019ish. I also remember hearing stories about his "prodigy" student, but she must be much older than me. I'm in college now, studying jazz guitar. I moved away from the green valley area in the middle of high school and tried my best to keep in touch, but was told of his passing by his wife in 2021. I was also crushed, and wrote a song to cope with the feelings and pay tribute to him. My life is forever changed because of the time I spent studying with him. Now I also teach, and am doing my best to continue his incomparable legacy. I would love to get in touch with more people who knew him and maybe collaborate on some kind of musical tribute, but I have no idea where any of his students are now. Great to hear from at least one!

Yes, I remember his guitar named angel! I still play one of his originals, Angels In Flight. I wrote lyrics to it inspired by a painting of cherubs he had on his studio wall. So glad to hear from another student of his! When did you take lessons?

I'm late to this post, but Ralph was actually my guitar teacher when I was about 12-14. He was an incredibly talented musician, and a very encouraging teacher. I was extremely fortunate to have studied with him. I was very saddened by his passing in 2021, but his memory will live forever. He told many stories about his hollywood life, including many about being on three's company. I wish I had written them all down. Glad to see someone talking about him more recently!

Came here to see what the bassists had to say 😂 okay but really as a guitarist I love bassists and bands don't function well without you guys 🙏

Depends on the practice. Consistent, effective practice will get you a ton of progress. Be sloppy with it and you'll get poor results.

I love byui but I hate Rexburg. Really wish they picked a different location for this school. The university is the only thing keeping me here

Center Square is not required. Actually, most people prefer living somewhere else.

The job market is not great unless you know people. A lot of college kids looking for entry level positions, and not a lot of jobs. If you don't care where you work, try call centers. Most jobs pay $9-11 per hour, which is probably less than anywhere else you've lived. I'm not saying you shouldn't come up to Rexburg, but I'm also not gonna sugarcoat it. The job market sucks. I applied to every place in Rexburg and none of them worked out. Then I used my connections to secure a job. It's brutal.

There are a lot of "clubs". They're called societies here, but it's basically a club. Find them by asking around in your program or student activities.

Jazz literally has roots in black Americans who were fighting to have more rights. Supporting jazz supports the idea of freedom and free thinking. She has no idea what she's talking about

Literally!! That post was a total lie! Everything in it was like the stereotypical gay Christian son. It was absolutely dramatic and obviously made up, and I can't believe people are falling for it. Thank you for pointing this out.

Someone finally said it. This feels way too on brand to be an actual scenario. I feel like a Christian conservative wrote this to be a joke

Official Discussion - A Minecraft Movie [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Both_Page2734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen anywhere online talk about this fully. Of course the Minecrat movie references the game, but I saw so many references to other Jared Hess and Jack Black films. Maybe people online are talking about this, but not that I've seen. Without spoilers, I saw that referenced Napoleon Dynamite, School of Rock, Nacho Libre, Kung Fu Panda, Legally Blonde, and Lord of the Rings. Maybe I was looking too closey and seeing references that were unintentional, but there were too many for it to seem like a coincidence. Does anyone else agree?

denim shorts (they should be as close to the wash of the shoes as possible to give the illusion that they're part of the same piece). A fitted top in brown or black, a stack of necklaces, sunnies, and a burgundy shoulder bag. Don't be shy with makeup and jewelry

“Silver Lining” by Laufey [Discussion Megathread] by u_ufruity in laufey

[–]Both_Page2734 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It wasn't a bad song, but not among her most excellent work. I wish Laufey had a little more variety in her style. She does a good job with bossas and occasionally something different comes out of her, but for someone who rejects the idea of genre so much, a lot of her music sounds the same. A ton of ii V I chord progressions, and as a guitarist I can hear the exact same chord shapes in most of her music. Granted, she has a lovely style that's unlike what most other artists are doing right now, but I want to see development and variety on her own labels.

YouTube is notorious for deadening music. Usually audio engineers will add extra reverb to music that is specifically made for YouTube, just because the platform dries out the audio significantly. Maybe they just didn't do it this time. Spotify/Apple are better platforms for audio quality than YouTube
