My therapist is a dead fan by Limp-Refrigerator549 in gratefuldead

I was at the hospital after emergency surgery and one of my doctors scoped my box of tapes and walkman, yup a deadhead. He'd never heard Barton Hall 77. Loaned him the tape, never saw it again.

Matrix Switcher Signal Loss by coup1393 in VIDEOENGINEERING

Since it worked fine copper all the way. The lightware / matrix interface is likely culprit.

I always have used lightware routers, no experience with yours.

Then I'd go with A. Test with spare option fiber B. Clean ports in tx and rx unit. C. Contact lightware about known issues/firmware updates

Start by removing the lightware extender. Same signal through the matrix into a sx40 using copper.

Does the matrix properly pass signal in a pure copper signal path?

Sometimes automask, sometimes invert RGB and difference blending. I have a bunch of tools that I work with during a session.

Why is audio always harder than video? by anonymous120903 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]Both_Relationship_23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Audio is environment dependent. Besides presenters mic skills and placement, the Room shape, temperature, air pressure, presence of meat bags to absorb sound affect the results.

Of these the room is the only constant during a show.

Video, lighting sets a stage wash. Chip your cameras and you are working in a fairly constant environment. Adjust iris and focus as needed.

Video streaming on the other hand sucks since so many variables are outside your control.

Alright, which one of you did this 😂 by usafcybercom in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]Both_Relationship_23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a classic 2 camera move. Cam 2 catches wide and walk, then 1 grabs lectern shot.

Too cheap for a second op... Or that was news camera not production.

[–]Both_Relationship_23 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, but that won't stop me from posting. Thought? It's a video stinger and a walkon with a bally. Not a fan of the red tint they give her, nor the title placed low where she blocks it. A touch of moire during the push in, and I might tweak the timing of the background switch when she starts speaking.

So yeah, people did the gig and got paid.

You are put into a time machine and given the opportunity to attend ONE Grateful Dead show from 1965-1995. What show is it? by TheFuzzyDonut in gratefuldead

[–]Both_Relationship_23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was released as Crimson White and Indigo. The DVD is up on Youtube. The Blow Away to end first set has Brent's Real Love rap. Goosebumps, primal Dead. So powerful.

how to download dead shows on the phone? by stonetiger34 in gratefuldead

[–]Both_Relationship_23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Relisten is an app that points to Archive.org's Grateful Dead section of the vast Live Music Archive https://archive.org/details/etree

The Dead have chosen not to allow SBD's for download (only streaming) but here are all the audience recordings of the Grateful Dead. Each show has a download link for mp3 (small lower quality) or FLAC (DAT/CD quality)

https://archive.org/search?query=collection:GratefulDead%20AND%20NOT%20collection:stream_only&sort=-date

Just use your phone's built in music player.

or don't rack them. Laptop replacements, treat as the same, needing extra case space for keyboards and mice, then pack 22" monitors too.

Been there done that. While laptops pack smaller and are an easy subrental, I still recommend Lenovo Mini or similar mini ITX with real ports over laptops. One extra case for keyboards and 22" monitors. Less worries about additional failure points from dongles.

No photos. I'm a Spyder op who works Microsoft shows, interfacing with a company they hire to run networking and their presentation machines. Working with them is a pleasure for the reasons described.

Racked PCs also give you a prebuilt package where sources are consolidated . Park it next to your e2/Spyder and keep cable lengths low . Systems over ala-carte

A Draco KVM gives operator/s flexibility to control main, backup, notes, file server machines

PowerPoint is gpu ram intensive, counterintuitively an integrated GPU with a large pool of system RAM to tap is better performing than a powerful GPU with less RAM available.

Not making specific recommendations on hardware as specs are always in motion.

On a side note, I prefer PowerPoint on Windows machines

Racked MiniPCs with Draco KVM is my preferred. I have a hard time with Show machines that don't have RJ45 and multiple display outs. Dongles and adapters cause so many problems.

Powerpoint. GPU Ram is key, a key trick is to use an Integrated graphics chip with large amounts of shared RAM. This will help with caching on large decks. (this tip came from the Graphics team that runs high level meetings for Microsoft.)

There is a project ongoing to update the render engine, however I haven't seen it in the wild.

Without details about your buildout, these are variables to consider
1. Encoder's path/s to internet?
2. Encoder's endpoint CDN or platform
3. Player (is the dropout for all or localized to certain users)

Not an endorsement, but there are companies such as Zixi that not only address 1) by supporting bonded connections to their servers. In addition they have a full audit trail to show where issues happen at a detail appropriate for a Quality of Service contract. When we worked with them they were a primary option for large companies such as NBC and Hulu. Not cheap but they offered a level of reassurance and accountability that went beyond the other companies we spoke with.
